Although it was later found that four of these peaks were less than 4,000 ft., tradition has kept them part of the group! Those who summit all of the high peaks become known as “46ers”, joining a special group of outdoor enthusiasts spanning generations. Camp Chingachgook’s backpacking trips are centered around the high peaks region of the Adirondacks. Choose the timeframe that works for you, and let your journey begin!

tradition Chingachgook Adventure Trips are the culmination of a history of extended camping trips begun in 1912. Summer camp has always offered three- to four-day canoeing and backpacking trips on Lake George, Lake Champlain, and the southern Adirondacks. In 1966, two-week Adventure Trips began. Today, Chingachgook offers 30+ Teen Adventure Trips each summer, hosting more than 250 youth on adventures of a lifetime.

sMall Groups A co-ed group of 10 or fewer campers and two trip leaders (male and female) is the perfect size for a wilderness or service adventure. With small groups, campers receive lots of individual guidance from trip leaders.

CHaraCter developMentA Chingachgook Teen Adventure Trip teaches the YMCA’s core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. Stepping away from the normal routine on a wilderness adventure develops these values as campers help prepare and clean up group meals, encourage each other through physical and mental challenges, and choose moments to step up and lead.
