Adventure Aquarium is home to many important endangered species. Students will explore what it means to be an endangered species, and learn about the threats facing our animal ambassadors.

Sharks are a unique group of animals with a complicated history and a mysterious present. Demystify shark teeth, shark species and shark relatives in our Sharks! lesson.

from marine biologists and veterinarians, it takes a lot of people to keep an aquarium running smoothly. This lesson is great for students considering STeM careers, or those wanting a peek into the daily life of our animals and staff.
SOS: Save Our SharkS
Shark populations are declining faster than they can rebound. Students will learn about different threats to sharks and why it is important to protect this ancient predator.
Special Needs
Classes move at a pace appropriate to students’ curiosity, and attempt to accommodate multiple learning styles.
I am a SeaStar
This class uses imitation to encourage movement, vocalization and creative thought. Students will be introduced to various marine animals and invited to engage their imaginations by imitating their movements and sounds. This class involves many real animal artifacts and a live animal, which students will have the option to touch.
terrIfIC turtleS
This lesson is for students fascinated by sea turtles and tortoises alike! Students will meet a few of our live turtles in residence, and have the opportunity to touch some turtle–related artifacts. This class uses live animals without direct animal contact.

Meet some of our educational animals, learn about their unique habitats and the adaptations they have to help them survive! Students are also welcome to touch some of our animal ambassadors during the program.

Do movies tell the truth about sharks and shark attacks? find out in this interactive program about shark species, shark behavior and the relationship between sharks and humans.

New and improved 30 minute tour allows groups to see a unique, behind-the-scenes view of our massive ocean Realm exhibit, focusing on our favorite reptiles. learn about sea turtle biology, get a bird’s eye view of Adventure Aquarium’s resident sea turtles and hear about efforts to conserve these endangered giants.

Students will enjoy hearing an original story about a little boy’s trip to the beach and the animals he meets there. Students will use all their senses and meet a real, live animal from the book that they will have the opportunity to touch.

Not everything smells the same! Students can explore their five senses, and learn how they are similar to and different from those of five ocean animals.

What makes a fish a fish? Students will play “fish detective” to determine if popular sea creatures are fish or another type of ocean animal. This lesson includes a live animal which students will have the opportunity to touch.
anImal wrapperS
Discover the diversity of feathers, fur and scales throughout the animal kingdom. This lesson uses many real artifacts that students can touch.

Why don’t penguins fly? How do penguins raise their chicks? Why do penguins wear tuxedos? find out all you need to know about these fascinating birds! Please note: Live penguins are not included in the class.

Behind-the-Scenes Tours

See how an aquarium really works! This hour-long tour includes access to areas where food is prepared, water quality analysis is performed and engineering spaces featuring filtration systems. This tour is great for students interested in science careers including biologists, chemists, vet techs and engineers.

45-minute activity based lab lessons

Grades 3rd — 4th
examine the science behind animal training in this hands-on laboratory program. Students will learn the basics of behavior observation, positive reinforcement training and animal enrichment, then put their skills to use creating a behavior log like the one biologists use to care for animals at the Aquarium.
aquarIum water qualIty analySIS
Grades 5th — 8th
using teamwork and problem solving skills, students will use water testing equipment to identify various properties of water, and match them up with the parameters necessary for some of our popular animals.

Grades 9th — 12th
This laboratory program explores the fascinating biology of squids, octopuses and cuttlefish. The dissection portion of this lab can be done as a hands-on activity or a demonstration. Students will create an anatomical diagram of a common squid.

Grades 9th — 12th
Does your school require students to shadow a professional in their field? This program gives a student in grades 9-12 an opportunity to meet up with Aquarium staff and get a behind–the–scenes look at a day in the life of a marine biologist. Interested students should inquire at [email protected].
