Friends, Prayer to St. Jude May the Sacred Heart of Jesus be praised, loved, and glorified now and forever more. Holy Mother of God, pray for us. St. Jude, patron saint of impossible causes, pray for us and grant my request. (Here state your request.) St. Jude, pray for us. (To be said four times daily for nine consecutive days: leave a copy in church each day—never fails.) Periodically, I come across this prayer to St. Jude and find copies at various places in the Church. While praying to St. Jude, the saint of ―impossible causes‖ is admirable, the placing of a copy in Church for nine days (the time of a novena) really borders on total superstition. How many of us in responding to a need of either a loved one or stranger would say: I’ll help you if you place your request in my mailbox for nine days in a row. It doesn’t make sense! God knows what we need before we ask—and asking and thanking almighty God are part of our prayer life. But NO WHERE in Sacred Scripture or in the Sacred Tradition of our Church does it teach to leave a request in a prominent place, i.e. a parish Church, for nine consecutive days. Enough said. Love consists in this: Not that we have loved God, but that God has loved us! (1 John 4:10)

Peace and goodness, Fr. Tony

Dear Friends, Last weekend Brian Romportl shared with us his prayerful and thoughtful decision to withdraw from the seminary. As his community of faith for many years, I know that I speak for all of us in wishing Brian the Lord’s choicest blessings as he faces the future with abundant hope and confidence. Faithfully in the Lord, Fr. Tony

ALTERNATIVE GIFT CARDS !!! (for your hard to buy friends or relatives)

Make a donation in their name to the North Lake Food Pantry. The Saint Vincent de Paul Conference is bringing back at least four type of gift cards (two Christmas, birthday, and thank you) styles to meet your needs. Posters showing our gift card designs are mounted on the church bulletin boards. Alternative Gift Giving is a fun way to buy gifts for your friends and family by making donations to the North Lake Food Pantry in their names. It simplifies gift giving and is a beautiful way of showing your love, thanks, and concern for people you know while supporting the hungry and needy in our area. Where and how do I do this kind of shopping? Gift cards will be available in a plastic tub at the back of the church. Attached to them will be a flyer listing four (4) simple steps to complete the process. The hardest part is picking out which card you'd like to use! Fill out the bottom of the flyer with your name and address, along with the name of the person you'd like to gift, and send it in with your donation. There's even a preaddressed envelope to the Food Pantry included. It's really as easy as that! Donations can be made for as much as you'd like but we're asking for a $10.00 minimum per card. We hope you decide to do some shopping with us. Bring the Christ Child's love to your friends and relatives by helping all of His children this holiday season. Peace and joy be with you.

Christian Formation

December 5, 2010 Second Sunday of Advent 5

MaKenna Konkol, 4th grader at our parish, decided she wanted to do something for those who have less. She formed a group of friends—the Green Girl’s Club— they met and decided to make a blanket for someone in need and planned to give it to the Vincentians. She shared her idea with the Christian Formation staff and soon her great idea was shared with the 180 children in the 1st-5th grade program. All 16 classes participated by each

making a blanket. MaKenna (far left) is shown presenting the blankets to Vincentian Ron Konieczka. Jonah Frederickson is also shown as he presents a gift of money on behalf of Woody’s Bar & Grill in North Lake.

―For her part, the Church has always had great respect for the elderly. ...God wills a proper respect for the dignity and worth, the health and well-being of the elderly and, through her charitable institutions...the Church seeks to fulfill the Lord’s command to respect life, regardless of age or circumstances.‖

—Pope Benedict XVI, address at St. Peter’s Residence, London, Sept. 18, 2010

We would like to personally invite you to the Fifth Annual Catholic Men's Conference (http://www.menofchrist.net/) on February 19, 2011 at the Milwaukee Theater in Milwaukee, WI. Through God's grace the 2010 conference was a tremendous success with over 2,800 men, boys, priests, seminarians, and deacons in attendance. Thanks to all of the priests who provided support and prayers last year. The feedback was extremely uplifting… From attendees: Reconciliation and adoration were wonderful. Thanks to

the priests for confession. The conference got me to go to confession for the first

time in 25 years. The conference instilled passion and fire in my life, and to

lead my family. This conference has stirred up the Truth in the men that we

brought from our area. This was the most challenging and beneficial religious

event I’ve ever participated in. It has reinforced my faith and encourages me that the

Church is vibrant among men. It helped me better understand my role as a man in a

Christian family. Increased my trust in Jesus. Confession was just what I

needed. The Holy Spirit carried the ―Surrounding Yourself With Truth‖ theme beyond the conference with men coming together to serve the Church (in particular – the Carmelite Sisters, parishes, families, kids, the poor, the unborn) through spiritual and corporal works of mercy. Additionally, several parishes are starting men’s groups this fall. The 2011 conference will focus on “Putting on the Armor of God”. It will provide the breastplate needed to fight the spiritual and temporal battles we all face. The day will be extremely powerful experience for all those attending with a number of men bringing their sons.

Prepare ye the Way

of the Lord!
