Advancing Asia’s Ambitions with You

17 – 21JULY 2017 SINGAPORE

Being among the leading banks in South East Asia is a humbling and challenging thing. It ensures we do our best to live up to the kind of role model we want to be, and deliver on the responsibilities we want to fulfill. It challenges us as we strive hard to keep our position and push the boundaries of performance continuously. Living out our mission of Humanising Financial Services is a lot harder than it sounds. It’s not just about treating people humanely or planning corporate social responsibility activities. It’s about how we make the right decisions in sometimes very difficult instances, which call for wisdom and judgment beyond textbook ethics and morals. It comes from the relentless effort to drive strong corporate performance and responsibility equally well.

Being a leader in today’s world requires grit, perseverance, discipline and a strong internal compass in addition to the basic set of leadership competencies like vision, agility and global literacies. We know that in order to remain the leader of banks, we need to bank on our leaders and invest in them. That is the only way we can develop and grow a cadre of Maybankers who are future ready to tackle the complex and oft-competing demands of this age.

So when the opportunity came up to sponsor The Global Institute for Leadership Development (GILD)® Asia, we immediately recognised the potential synergies and what our leaders would be able to get out of such a unique learning platform. I am truly excited about GILD Asia and the opportunity for Maybank to not only be a thought leader in the space of leadership development and innovation, but also for the opportunity to realise our vision of “Advancing Asia’s Ambition” and at the same time, humanise financial services in yet another new and creative way for the people in this region.

Many organisations profess that human capital is their most important asset. At Maybank, we don’t just talk about it, but we actively live it out. Humanising Financial Services has been, and continues to be at the core of everything we do: from the way we treat our employees, and the service we provide to our customers and the community, to the longterm investments we make in growing our leaders. We believe that strategic talent management and sustained efforts in building leadership capacity are true hallmarks of world-class organisations.

Having partnered with Linkage over the years on several group-wide leadership development initiatives, we were happy when the opportunity came up to sponsor GILD Asia. While GILD looks like a conference, it is not. It offers participants so much more. When the late Professor Warren Bennis designed GILD together with Linkage, a holistic leadership development experience like no other was envisioned. And 21 years later, GILD continues to be acknowledged as one of the best and most comprehensive leadership development programs in the world.

World-renowned CEOs, best-selling authors, prominent academics and senior government officials will inspire with their leadership stories, challenge with their perspectives and move to action with their insights.2
