THIS WEEK IN SUNDAY SCHOOL Today the Sunday School students study the account “Jesus Calms a Storm.” Just as Jesus calmed the storm with His Word for the frightened disciples, so He calms and ends the storm of sin and death by taking our sin upon Himself and dying in our place so we may live eternally. Consider discussing, “What did Jesus do to calm the storm? How does Jesus calm the storms in our life?” LADIES BIBLE STUDY INFORMATION The Ladies Bible Study Group is ]inish- ing the study of Hosea. They would like to extend an invitation to all women in the congregation to join them this Monday morning at 10:00 a.m. in the church fellowship hall. ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION HOUR Beginning TODAY , Sunday, May 5 we will begin a new Bible Study that will be led by Bill Drew. Drawing from Scripture, “God’s Word, the Lutheran Difference Bible Study” identifies how Lutherans differ from other Christians. These studies will prepare Lutherans to share their faith and help non- Lutherans understand the Lutheran difference. There will be a link to the entire Bible Study document sent with the weekly GraceNotes and hard copies of the weekly lesson will be available in the Office during the week prior or on Sunday during the Education Hour. A thank you to Karen Sherfy for all her hard work that takes place behind the scenes. Did you know that the communion wine is ordered by Karen? As well as other altar supplies? She waters the plants, and arranges many of them to be on the altar. She is a faithful servant of our church, and many thanks to her.

ADULT CHRISTIAN EDUCATION HOUR

Beginning TODAY, Sunday, May 5 we will begin a new Bible Study that will be led by Bill Drew. Reinke Moving News

Calling able bodied movers and helpers. Pastor Reinke is closing on his house Thursday, May 16. That evening for a couple hours, if anyone is able, we can help get a bed and a few boxes out of his moving truck and into the house. The next day, Friday, May 17 is moving day! Starting around 8am, we will get that moving truck emptied. For those that aren’t able to lift and carry, we will need some meals planned. Mark Kinney is leading this moving event, so if you’re able to help in any way, please let him know at.

Mark Your Calendars for VBS Day Camp 2019!

June 24 - 28 | 9 am - Noon

This year our VBS Day Camp program is embarking on a Miraculous Mission - we hope you can join us for the week as we learn how Jesus Saves the World!

Kids age 3 - 5th grade are invited to join us as campers, and students who have finished sixth grade and older are welcome as junior counselors.

New This Year: Registration for both campers and counselors is available online at vbsmate.com/BSLCSpokane

Volunteers Needed: This year, we're hosting Day Camp on our own! Without Lutherhaven's helpers, we're looking for volunteers to help with each of our stations: Storytelling, Bible Challenge, Crafts, Snacks, and Games. If you are interested in helping with one of these activities, or in traveling to each station with a group of campers, please contact DCE Jackie ([email protected]).

BSLC Grounds Enhancing

We have scheduled Saturday, May 11, from 9am until noon to clean up and enhance the BSLC property. We especially need to sweep the parking lot clean of pine needles, etc. Bring rakes and outdoor brooms if you have them.

This is in preparation to getting the lines repainted in the parking lot. The parking lot will be closed on May 14th at 6am for repainting. Please plan accordingly, as we will not be able to park in front of the church for a couple hours until it dries.

Funny thing heard at the ELC this week:

Teacher: Are you supposed to be running ahead of me?

Child: No, but my jets were out of control!

Reminder -

Sunday School Grades 2 - 5 and the Adult Choir will rehearse today after 1st service in the sanctuary at 9:30am.

This in in preparation for singing at the 10:30am Service next week, May 12th.

A Thank You Note Words can not fully describe the gratitude I hold in my heart for this congregation for the memorial service and luncheon in honor of my husband Claude who went to heaven April 22. It all happened so fast. Pastor Pace was wonderful and helped me so much. From the office staff, the sanctuary volunteers, the people who brought food, set up for the meal, decorated, served and cleaned up afterward—how can I ever, ever thank you enough? I have received amazing cards which have given me great comfort in the cards’ words, and what people wrote in their own hand. Thank you for the music by Floyd, Kathleen, Becky and Tom. I deeply appreciated the presence of the folks at the service and listened to you all sing. Claude had always wanted How Great Thou Art and Just As I Am. I have been truly blessed by God through you all during this time of loss. Thank you—thank you—thank you. Jean Staben
