Admission Requirements• Completed application and a sixty dollar
($60) non-refundable fee.• Official transcripts verifying bachelor’s,
master’s, post bachelor’s degree credits.• GPA of 3.25 or above (3.0 for SPED).
Admission Requirements• Current Teaching License
(Level 1 for M.Ed.; Level 2 for LEAD).• Verification of years of teaching
(2 years for M.Ed.; 3 years for LEAD).• Attend Orientation.• Admission Essay/LEAD Pre-Assessment.• Admission Committee Approval.
Purpose of Admission Essay• Sample of your writing as measure of
preparation to do graduate-level work.• Your essay will NOT disqualify you.• Plagiarism WILL disqualify you.• If you use other people’s thoughts,
words, and ideas, you MUST credit them by appropriately paraphrasing, quoting, and citing according to APA guidelines.
Admission Procedures • Submit all required documents.• Meet all requirements and attend Orientation.• Follow e-mailed instructions for Admission
Essay and LEAD Pre-Assessment.We MUST have your e-mail address!
• Once notified of admission, you may register.• Be prompt! You may be put on a waiting list

M.Ed. 12-Credit Elective Options
• Any 6000-level GSE courses not required for the M.Ed. Core or for the Administrative License may be taken as electives.
• Up to 6 credits of approved 5000-level courses plus 6 credits of 6000-level courses.
• Up to 12 credits of Utah state-approved, 5000-level courses from a completed endorsement or other SUU approved program; must appear on official transcripts on file with SUU.
M.Ed. Thesis OR Portfolio
Thesis Option:• EDUC 6650 & EDUC 6933: Conduct research
on educational problem, collect and analyze data, write, defend, and publish your report.
Portfolio Option:• EDUC 6652 & EDUC 6932: Prepare portfolio
to demonstrate your achievement of National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.
SPED License (24-30 hours)
Summer Hybrid Program4 Series A Classes x 3 credits = 12 credits
3 Series B Classes x 3 credits = 9 credits
Student Teaching = 3-9 credits
Students without current teaching license may be required to take more content courses (depending on their background) to become highly qualified.
Administrative License (33 hours)
7 Classes x 3 credits = 21 credits
4 Internships x 3 credits = 12 credits

Courses Common to M.Ed. and 42-hour LEAD Program
• Only three (3) courses are required for both programs:
EDUC 6000, 6410, 6740
• If you decide to switch programs, you MUST meet requirements of the program to which you are switching.
Administrative License• Complete core first; THEN Internships.• Some Internship Hours completed during
7 of the 10 core courses: Up to 10 hours per core class, 70 hours possible.
• For out-of-state administrative students NOT earning a Utah license: It is YOUR responsibility to assure ALL courses meet your own state’s requirements.

Internship Discussion• ADVISE your current administrator that
you will be completing four (4) internships totaling 450 HOURS of administrative work.
• You will need some flexibility in your schedule, and you will need the support of your administrator.

• REVIEW FORMS #20, #21, and #22 on the Admission Orientation Instructions web page.
• Check with your Human Resources Dept. for forms and deadlines for these School Districts:
Canyons, Jordan, Murray, Sevier, Tooele, and Washington
• Submit all to Shelley Dahlin for signatures.
• Educational Leadership: Administration and Supervision
• You MUST list Utah State Office of Education AND Southern Utah University as recipients for your Praxis scores.
• Send copy of all 3 pages of test results to your Intern Supervisor.

semester; also inform Sandy or Shelley.• DegreeWorks: Track your own progress to
graduation.* It’s YOUR responsibility!
