rich in history Founded in 1933 on the banks of the Toms River in Pine Beach, New Jersey, the school is named after Admiral David Glasgow Farragut, the first U.S. Naval officer to rise to that rank. The St. Petersburg campus opened in 1945 on the shores of Boca Ciega Bay and is the only campus open today. Through an act of Congress, the Upper School is designated as an Honor Naval school and those students participate in our Jr. Naval ROTC program.

the farragut experience The combination of invaluable academic and life lessons learned at Farragut create what our alumni call The Farragut Experience. We prepare graduates to be critical thinkers ready to succeed, even in careers that do not currently exist. To that end, Farragut has graduated two of the twelve moon-walking astronauts, Alan Shepard ‘41 and Charlie Duke ‘53, along with national leaders in business, philanthropy, and the military.

Lifelong Friendships & MentorsA multicultural, multilingual student body means everyone--students and faculty alike--get the benefit of learning about new languages, foods, and cultures. Boarding students often go home with day students for the weekend, and day students are often invited to visit homes, states, and countries of their classmates over the summer.

With so many students, faculty and staff living on campus, we truly are a family. Our faculty and staff also coach sports, join students at the breakfast and dinner table, help with tough assignments during nightly study hall, and truly care, as a parent would.
