overwhelmed to say that our college was reaccredited with the same „A‟ Grade by NAAC. After the successful completion of one important mile stone, the institution entered another mile stone, namely Extension of Autonomy during this year. UGC Expert Committee headed by Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice Chancellor, Punjab University and members Prof. Naresh Chandra, Former

Pro-Vice Chancellor, Mumbai University, Dr.Winny Varghese, Principal, Mar Athanasius College, Kerala, Dr.S.Muthukumaran, Former Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli, Dr.Senthamil Selvi, Regional Joint Director of Collegiate Education, Tiruchirapalli and Mrs. Kanta Batra, Deputy

Secretary, UGC, Delhi visited our institution on 23, 24th September 2011. They as a team pointed out the strength of the institution and offered suggestions for improvement and extension of Autonomy was granted to our institution for five more years.

6,7th July 2011. Dr.S.Venkatraman, Senior Programme Officer, UNESCO, Nairobi, Kenya, was the Resource Person. He imparted training in communication skills, career planning and work plan for community work.

A series of workshops will be conducted for the selected group of 120 students from second year Undergraduate

courses for two years. 32 villages were identified to undertake community service in topics like Health and Hygiene, Nutrition, Education, Water pollution, Soil Pollution, Environment, Anganwadi workers, Drop out in schools etc.,. This was the first workshop of the series. Dr. R. Sophia Porchelvi, Mrs. R.Alamelu and Mrs. R. Vanitha coordinated the entire programme.

Our institution hosted a two day

workshop on the „Formation of VIPNET Science Clubs‟ for school teachers jointly organized by Vigyan Prasar, Govt. of India

and Tamil Nadu Science and Technology Centre, Chennai on 20, 21st June, 2011. Dr.B.K.Thyagi, Principal Scientific Officer, Vigyan Prasar, Govt. of India was the Resource Person. 102 Higher Secondary school teachers of Nagapattinam District participated and benefited out of this programme. Ms.R.Priscilla, Head, Department of Physics acted as the Coordinator of this workshop. The Legal Aid Club was inaugurated in A.D.M. College, Nagapattinam by the Department of History and the Legal Aid

Commission of Nagapattinam District Mr.N.Sathiskumar, the District Magistrate and Commissioner of District Legal Aid Commission, Nagapattinam inaugurated the Club on 29.09.2011. Moreover, in order to prevent ragging in the campus, the Police Department has kept a suggestion box in the campus for the benefit of the students from 20.09.2011.

The Board of Studies meetings of all the departments were conducted during the last week of June and the eighth Academic Council meeting was held on 07.07.2011 at ADM College for Women.

The Chemper Comac Association and Physics Association jointly organized a Seminar on „Bio diversity and our future‟ on 21.06.2011. Dr. B. K. Thyagi, Principal

Scientific Officer, Govt. of India, was the Chief Guest and enlightened the audience on the topic. Another Seminar on „Employment oppourtunities to the Science students‟ was organized on 25.06.2011.

Dr.C.V.S. Brahmanandha Rao, Scientific Officer, Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research, Kalpakkam, was the Resource Person. The Journal Club meeting was arranged on 04.08.2011. Dr. A. John Marina, Head of Chemistry and Controller of Examinations, Govt. Arts College for Women, Kumbakonam acted as the Resource Person and shared her views. Moreover the PG students presented their contributions and

discussed about the articles they referred from various journals. As part of extension activity Australian chemistry Quiz was conducted on 09.09.2011 for the school children.

The Population Education Club arranged for a meeting on 11.07.2011. Dr. A. Valliammai, Head, Department of Economics, was the Resource Person and she spoke about the problems of Population Explosion and the Remedial measures. Under the auspices of Planning forum a Quiz contest was conducted by Mrs.S.Manimegalai, Associate Professor in Mathematics on 10.08.2011.

The Journal Club meeting was held on 05.07.2011.As part of Extension activity, a programme on „Crafts making‟ was organized for unemployed women on 16.07.2011 at the college premises and Mrs.Amara, COP staff of Fashion Technology, was the Resource Person. One more programme on „Beauty Tips‟ was organized for the Final Year students and unemployed Women on 06.08.2011 and Mrs.A.Matharasi, Beautician, Karaikal, inspired the participants with her expertise.

Commerce delivered a Special Lecture on „E-Banking‟ at Dharmapuram Adhinam College, Mayiladuthurai on 04.10.2011. The Journal Club Meeting was held on 28.07.2011. As part of Extension activity the department of Commerce arranged Coaching Classes for the Higher Secondary students of Natarajan Dhamayanthi Hr. Sec. School, Nagapattinam from 01.08.2011 to 11.08.2011.

The Bridge Course in English for the

freshers was conducted on 27-29, July 2011. Dr.R.Shanthi, Associate Professor in English, Mr.C.Radhakrishnan, Associate Professor in English and Mr.C.Pari, Assistant Professor in

English, A.V.V.M. Sri Pushpam College, Poondi, Dr.K.B. Jasmine Suthanthra Devi, Professor of English, Prist University, Thanjavur, were the Resource Persons. Oratorical contest on „Is Democracy a Boon or Bane?‟ was conducted on 11.08.2011. Prizes were given to the winners of the competitions.

The Parents Teachers Meetings was

conducted on 01.08.2011. As part if Extension Activity, a Medical Programme was organized at Municipal Pettai to identify Diabetes Mellitus and to check the Blood Pressure level of the people. Dr. S. Angelina Gloritta Parimala, Associate Professor in Zoology and Mrs.S.Vanitha, Assistant Professor in Zoology coordinated the programme along with 15 students.

Ramanujan Mathematical Association organized a Seminar on „Locally Convex Topological Vector Spaces ‟on 28.07.2011 and Dr. S. Subulakshmi, Assistant Professor in Mathematics, D.G.G. Arts College (W), Mayiladuthurai was the Resource Person. A One day Workshop on „Document preparation using LaTeX‟ was organized by the department on 12.11.2011. Mr. B. Anand Network Engineer, Bharathidasan University was the Resource person and he explained about document preparation using LaTeX with practical.

Under the auspices of Ramanujan Mathematical Association, a Quiz competition was conducted on 22.08.2011 for the students of Mathematics Department. Mrs.S.Manimegalai and Mrs.R.Vanitha, Associate Professors in Mathematics, coordinated the programme. The Parents Teachers meeting was conducted on 27.07.2011 and the Journal Club meeting was held on 17.08.2011.

was the Resource person and he spoke on „Multimedia‟. The Journal club meeting was arranged on 09.08.2011.

The Physics Association joinly

organized a one day Seminar with Chemistry on 21.06.2011. Three students Ms.M.Priya, Ms.U.Jansirani and Ms.A.Vimala of III B.Sc. Physics participated in a Seminar „Electro Fest‟ at M.I.E.T. Arts and Science College, Tiruchirapalli, on 22.09.2011.

Our students brought laurels to the Institution by having won prizes in State and National level competitions in Sports and

Games. Inter Collegiate Swimming Championship was held on 01.08.2011 & 02.08.2011 at Pudukottai. Our students won second place in the Oral Championship. The Yoga State Championship was held on

10.09.2011 at Chennai. Our team R.Gajalakshmi, II M.Com., A.Suryapraba, I M.Com, K.Vinothini, II B.Sc. Zoology, R.K. Praveena, III B.Com, R.Nagalakshmi, II B.Sc. B.A. History and R.Ramya, III BBA won the III Prize.

The State Chess Championship was held on 02.10.2011 at Mannarkudi. Our students P.Priypanka, III BBA, S.Sinduja, III B.Sc. I.T., Y.Abirami, III B.Sc.I.T., K.Jayapriya, III B.Sc. Comp. Science, bagged the I and II prizes.

The Department organized an Educational Trip to Thalachankadu on 21.07.2011, where they visited the Excavation sites and famous Temple.

Our students won prizes in a debate organized by Magalir Mandram, Nagapattinam on 04.07.2011 at Municipal Hr.Sec. School, Nagapattinam. Oratorical and Essay Competitions on „Drug Abuse‟ were conducted on 11.07.2011. Pavendar Poetry recitation competition was organized by Murasoli Arakkattalai, Nagapattinam at College and District levels on 15.07.2011 and 17.07.2011 in our college premises and NDHS School, Nagpattinam.

An Essay Competition about Gandhi was conducted on 05.08.2011 and a speech competition about Periyar was arranged on 05.09.2011. Two students participated in a speech competition at University level on 11.09.2011. The faculty of Tamil Department encourage and motivate the students by conducting various competitions and sending

the students to participate in competitions conducted by others.

Teaching and Research are the two

essential and principal responsibilities of the faculty at ADM College. We are proud of saying that three more departments, namely, Chemistry, Mathematics and Economics were recognized as Research Centres for pursuing Doctoral degree by the Bharathidasan University.

Four candidates completed their

doctorates in commerce and chemistry. , Mr, G. Selvarajan, Asst. Prof. in Chemistry, Govt. Arts college, Mannargudi and Mr. B. Ravindran, Head , Dept. of Physics, EGSP Eng. College , Nagapattinam were awarded under the guidance of Dr. G. Madhurambal. Mr. N. Karthik., Head , Dept. of Business Administration, EGSP Eng. College, Nagapattinam, and Mrs. P. Vijaya Banu, Asst. Prof. in Commerce, Govt. Arts college for women, Kumbokonam, were awarded Ph.D under the guidance of Dr. N. Selvachandra.

Our staff members are actively

engaged in research activities by undertaking research projects, guiding research scholars, publishing in reputed journals, participating and presenting papers in various seminars/ workshops/ conference. The details are finished at the back of this letter.

Career Oriented Programme

IQAC plays a vital role in all the developmental activities of the college. IQAC is at sustaining, promoting and maintaining the quality culture in the College. The IQAC meetings are conducted periodically to ensure quality maintenance, academic performance, achievements, Seminars and Workshops conducted, research, and extension activities.

The college offers Six Career Oriented Programmes in order to develop the skills of the students which are mostly needed in the changing scenario. They are Computer Applications, Fashion Technology, Bio-Informatics, Office Management and Automation, Tourism and Journalism and Industrial Chemical Techniques. All the first year students are enrolled in any one of the six programmes and getting benefited out of this. The students are visiting companies, Industries and Institutes to get practical training in the programmes chosen by them. Communication Skills (out sourcing):

A MOU was signed with Mind Tree career Developers, Chennai, for improving the communication skills of the students. All the second year and final year UG students are given training in soft and aptitude skills. Moreover, the performance of each and every student is assessed. The well equipped language lab with excellent softwares provides a way for them to improve their communication skills.

Journal club: The club meets periodically and students present the materials they have referred from various journals and magazines. Speaker’s Forum: Speaker‟s forum is arranged regularly by all the departments. The students are interested to speak topics like

current affairs, Science, Engineering, Information Technology, Women, Pollution and Personality Development, etc.

A training programme on „Disaster

Management – Earth Quake‟ was given through this satellite programme on 13.07.2011 by the National Disaster Management. A programme on „Diet and Health‟ was broadcasted on 09.08.2011. Popular Science lectures on „DNA finger printing‟ and „Carbon foot printing‟ was delivered on 16.09.2011 and 22.09.2011 respectively. ADM STUDENTS OUTREACH PROGRAMME

is a College to Community programme started during the academic year 2010-11 to enhance the extension activities of our College and to involve the interested staff and students in community service. Dr. S. Venkatraman, Senior Programme Officer, UNESCO, Nairobi, Kenya, is facilitating along with the coordinators and 12 staff members. 120 second year undergraduate students from all the major departments have been given training through this programme.

As followed by the workshop conducted during July, the 12 groups of students prepared their field plans and got them approved by the Facilitator through e-mail and they carried the work in 36 small groups, that is, three from each department.

They identified and visited the places and make a complete study of the people according to the area selected by them and completed their first phase of work. Ms.S.Priya, III B.A. Economics received „Best NSS Volunteer‟ Award from the Bharathidasan University, Tiruchirapalli for the year 2011. The Independence day was celebrated at Iwanallur on 15.08.2011. 10 NSS Volunteers participated in a Workshop on „Leadership Qualilties‟ at Dharmapuram Adinam Arts College, Mayiladuthurai. On 23.08.2011, 75 NSS Volunteers undertook cleaning at Sri. Neelayathatchiamman Temple. Selvi.S.Vimala, II B.Sc. Physics, NSS Volunteer, donated Blood at Govt. Hospital, Nagapattinam on 01.10.2011.

Drawing and poetry recitation competitions were conducted on 27.07.2011 and prizes were given to the winners.

NCC cadets of our college participated in an Inter Unit Competition (IUC) from 27.05.2011 to 05.06.2011 at Tiruchirappalli. 5 NCC cadets participated in an IUC from 09.06.2011 to 18.06.2011 at

Tiruchirappalli. Two cadets attended a Basic Leadership Camp from 12.09.2011 to 29.09.2011 at Kanpur, Uttarpradesh. 23 NCC cadets attended a Combined Annual Training Camp from 01.10.2011 to 10.10.2011 at Kumbakonam.

The Co-ordinators of Rotract Club

and our Rotaractors attended the Installation Function of the Rotary Club of Nagapattinam on 10.07.2011. The Installation of Office Bearers for Rotaract Club of A.D.M. College for the academic year 2011-12 was held on

11.08.2011 and Rtn .N. Govindarajalu, Governor, spoke about the activities of the Club. The Rotary Club has joined with Ministry of New and Renewable Energy and Tamil Nadu Energy Development Agency in the “Rajiv Gandhi Akshaya Urja Diwar 2011” and its mission is to propagate the renewable energy sources. Our Rotaractors and Co-ordinators participated in this programme. Moreover, a rally was organized on 20.08.2011. Mr.K.A. Jayapal, Minister for Fisheries and Mr.T,Munusamy, I.A.S. District Collector, started the rally that was to commemorate late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi‟s Birthday Anniversary, Our Rotaractors participating in the “Blood Donation Camp” jointly organized in the Rotary “Club of Nagapattinam on 01.10.2011.

Our students participated in a

meeting arranged at Collectorate, Nagapattinam, in connection with the World Consumer Day on 06.07.2011.

Youth Red Cross Red Ribbon Club

Career Guidance Cell

On the occasion of Geneva

Convention Day celebrations an elocution competition was conducted on “How to use social networking sites for social activities” on 04.08.2011. M.Rajeswari, III B.Sc. Computer Science and R.Revathi, III B,Sc. Bio-Chemistry won the prizes and participated in District level competition on the same topic and got II prizes in English and Tamil respectively. Four of our students participated and won prizes in oratorical and essay competitions conducted by IRCS, Nagapattinam on 09.08.2011. A First Aid Training Programme was organized on 09.08.2011 and 23.08.2011. The YRC Volunteers undertook the activity of cleaning the campus. All the YRC volunteers participated in the Geneva Convention Rally organized by the District IRCS Branch, Nagapattinam on 12.08.2011.

VStep Techno Park, Tiruchirapalli, conducted an interview on 17.08.2011. Mr.Selvapandian, H.R. selected 27 out of the

181 participants. Mr.Antony Valen, H.R. from Sharakhan Ltd., Chennai, conducted an interview for 109 students on 01.10.2011 and 9 students were selected. On 14.10.2011, Mr.Vivekanandan, H.R. from Decrent Technology, Chennai conducted an interview for 145 students and out of which 23 were selected.

On Blood Donars Day, a Blood

donation camp was organized at collectorate, Nagapattinam on 26.06.2011. District collector Thiru. D. Munusamy, was the Chief guest and he spoke on the need for donating blood. M. Muthumeenatchi, II B.Sc., Mathematics, donated Blood and RRC, NSS volunteers participated.

A one-day seminar on First Aid and AIDS awareness was organized as a joint venture with NSS in the adapted village

Iwanallur on 9.8.2011. Mr. S. Senthil Kumar, VCTC, Govt. Hospital, and Mrs. R. Alamelu, Associate Professor in History, YRC Coordinator, were the Resource persons.

The club organized a Diabetes Mellitus Identification Camp at Municipal

Pettai on 09.08.2011. A Slogam Writing Competition on “Need of Wild Life Protection” was conducted on 12.10.2011.

A special programme on “English for

Competitive Examinations” was arranged on 20.07.2011. Mrs.A.Santhanalakshmi, Head, Department of English was the Resource person and 101 students attended the programme. A special coaching on “Reasoning ability and logical deduction” was organized on 28.07.2011, with Mr.S.Ramadoss, Managing Director, Samkamal Academy, Nagapattinam, as the Resource Person on 02.08.2011. A coaching class was conducted for the PG and M.Phil., students on writing Paper-I in SET Examinations. Prof. S. Sivaraman, Head, Department of Mathematics, A.V.C. College, Mayiladuthurai, was the Resource Person and he enlightened the students with all his expertise.
