Johnston Nov 2015 Adiantum silvaticum Adiantum silvaticum Family: Adiantaceae Genus: Adiantum from the Greek adianos (dry or non-wettable), referring to the water-shedding nature of the lamina. Species: silvaticum from Latin silvaticus (from the forest), in reference to habitat. This is a terrestrial fern with a long- creeping, much-branched rhizome. The fronds are up to 80 cm long. The laminae are bright green or bluish green. The stipe is shiny black. The primary pinnules all have roughly the same length and degree of branching. It is found in subtropical and temperate rainforest margins and in wet eucalypt forests, from coast to tableland.
