“What Came You Here to Do?” Author unknown, courtesy of the American-Canadian Grand Lodge of Germany

And now, my brother, what came you here to do?

When you joined our mystic circle, had you a purpose in your heart to be of

service to your fellow man and perform your allotted part?

Or come you out of curiosity or motive personal in view?

Tell me, brother, on the square, what came you here to do?

Have you failed to grasp the meaning of the symbols of our chart?

Have you learned to subdue your passions and make improvements in your art?

Do you always, always uphold the trusts on which we firmly stand.

Teaching the Fatherhood of God And the Brotherhood of man?

Have you been willing to aid the brother when life surges fierce and wild?

Have you offered cheer and comfort To the Mason’s widow, wife, and child?

If you have done so, my brother, You are a Mason good and true, and can give a correct answer.

What came you here to do?

ACACIA, by William R. Fischer

The Acacia tree is found in the area known as Palestine during ancient times,

today it is found all over Africa. Acacia looks like the mulberry tree, can grow to

well over one hundred feet high and is a hard wood. The gum obtained from it is

known as Arabic.

Acacia is a sacred Hebrew wood known in the scripture as "Shittah." The ark of

the covenant was made from it.

Acacia is part of our initiation as Master Masons and represents the immortality of

the soul, as the soul lives on after our bodies have been put to rest.

Acacia can be a bush, tree, or a grove of trees. If you cut it down it grows back, if

you burn it, it grows back. If you try to dig it up and leave one root it will grow

back. Acacia can live through floods, droughts, and bad soil conditions. There is

little doubt to the reason Acacia is our symbol of immortality.

FROM THE EAST Well, I am amazed at how fast the year has passed. It has been an incredible experience being able to serve the Lodge as Worshipful Master!

I can’t say that I got everything accomplished this past year that I had hoped to, but we made a bit of progress on several of the items. Our election of Officers for 2018 will be held at the first meeting in December. Nominations are closed and we did not receive a nomination

for Junior Warden so that position will not be filled in the coming election. Once we find someone that wishes to fil the position of JW, we will have to request dispensation to hold a special election. Until then the position will be filled Pro-Tem.

There are also a few appointed positions that need to be filled, so if you are interested, please contact me. Remember to bring your pennies to the meetings with you in December. At our December meetings only, you will be able to redeem those

pennies toward the purchase of any in-stock item from our display case at the value of $1.00 Each. We will be honoring our Past Masters at our second meeting this month, so if you are a Past Master of Englewood, be sure to be there and be

recognized for your contribution to the Lodge

Each One - Reach One Many of you know a Brother that doesn’t come to Lodge anymore, a neighbor that hasn’t been to our Lodge, or someone that maybe has

expressed an interest in becoming a mason. Reach out! Bring them to Lodge. Let’s all focus on Fellowship and Brotherly Love , for they are the cement that binds us and makes us who we are.

Alone we are a single drop, together we can be a tidal wave

Fraternally Yours,

Worshipful Master, Dan Van Alstine

From the West

BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONS

FROM THE SOUTH Brethren,

First off, welcome to all of our new members. Your talents and input are sure to be valued assets to our lodge!

As 2017 comes to a close I would like to extend my gratitude to the craft and my fellow officers for a great year. For half a century Freemasons have been at work making building better men in our Englewood community, it was a great privilege to celebrate that this year.

Our lodge received a much needed make over. We are continuing to make strides toward helping another disabled vet via our track chair fund. The adopt a teacher program has continued to impact our youth and teachers. Our participation in parades and events like Safe Walk

are helping shine more light on our beloved fraternity... We have accomplished a lot. It has been a pleasure to serve as JW.

MASONIC ANNIVERSARIES

(Reported in 5 year Increments)

Don’t forget our LYPMG Jug on the Tyler’s Desk. One hundred percent of

the funds raised or collected for this program go to the Masonic Home Endowment Fund. They

are not discretionary, and cannot be used for other

Lodge expenditures.

MYAKKA SCOTTISH RITE CLUB

We met upon the level...and parted upon the square. We experienced a very meaningful club meeting this month. A few days from Veteran's Day...we celebrated and honored our veterans, both past and

present. The attendees got to take home a "soldier" ... to think about and pray for them. God Bless our Veterans! This is also our traditional month to give "thanks" for what we have. A HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO ALL. (Worshipful) Br. Dan Van Alstine provided pork chops that you can only dream about...coupled

with sweet potatoes and sweets best left to the imagination! Our guest speaker, our own Br John Stone, spoke to us about financial planning and what we need to do to plan for our futures. Thank you, John! Our next meeting will feature a very important speaker...Officer Dale Phillips of the Charlotte County

Sheriff's Office, Crime prevention Unit, she will speak to us about fraud and ID theft...this is a very important subject, especially about a week before Christmas! We should ALL be there to listen and learn! Our featured entree for December will be HAM. Please come and bring a dish that will compliment.

Hope to see you at 6pm on December 15th! SO MOTE IT BE!

December….The month that Freemasons honor the Supreme Architect of the Universe. The Holy Book of Faith is one of the three great lights that are found at our lodge’s altar. In it we read about the birth of the Son of God. This is also represented by the symbol above the Master’s chair in the East with the letter “G” and is also part of our main symbol of square and compass. It is an American symbol with dual meaning. It is a representation of a deity, the initial of God, and it also represents the science of geometry used by builders. It is our belief that all aspects of our lives come from God and that the

brotherhood of man is under the Fatherhood of God. The Supreme Architect of the Universe must be the center of our lives.

Masonic Education

I would like to take this opportunity to review the Masonic education we discussed this year. We reviewed some of our appendant bodies such as the Shriners. We looked at the history of our lodge as we celebrated our 50th anniversary. I talked about a Masonic historical time chart starting with the

1100’s. Over the summer months we looked at Masonic symbols and the lives of famous Freemasons. I also gave some Masonic and lodge pep talks from time to time. In the New Year I will continue with a look at our many symbols and continue with the history of Freemasonry. There are many more famous

Freemasons to talk about as well. I would like to again thank the Brothers of the lodge for allowing me to be your Lodge Education Officer. If you have any suggestions for topics, please let me know.
