Magnetometer Survey - West Block

- l -INTRODUCTION

During the period of July 9 to August 16, 1984,

a magnetometer surrey and a radiofrequency (VLF) electro

magnetic survey, were carried out on the Macklem Township

properties of Livingstone Energy Corp. of Vancouver, B.C.

The properties consist of two claim blocks previously

designated as the "West Block" containing six claims and

the "East Block" containing thirty-one claims. The survey

of the "East Block" was completed in the summer of 1984 and

a report dated August 20, 1984 was submitted for assessment

credit. The flooded condition of the "West Block", however,

made it inaccessible, except for its eastern edge, and the

survey of this area was postponed until the following winter.

This claim block was surveyed in April of 1985, and this

addendum to the original report, is a description of the

results of this survey.

The entire area of the six claims (about 300 acres),

was covered during both the electromagnetic and magnetometer

l portions of the geophysical survey. The control grid, of 8.7

miles, is shown on the two plans entitled "Electromagnetic

Survey" and "Magnetometer Survey", on a scale of l inch s 200

feet.

The purpose of each phase of the geophysical survey,

as well as the instrumentation and procedure, are the same ac

in the original survey of 19#4 and are described in the

original report.

ELECTROMAGNETIC RESULTS

Five zones of anomalous electromagnetic conduction

were indicated by the V.L.F. portion of the survey, three

of these occurring in the southeastern corner of the claim

block, and the other two occurring along the western edge

of the property.

The most obvious anomaly is conductor axis "L" which

was detected on three lines (3*OOW, 6*OOW, and 9-rOOW)

between 26*00 south and 27*00 south. Its strike is south-

S00-east (1000 ) and it appears to dip very steeply to the

south. The point of inflection is quite sharp on the inphase

component, particularly on line 6*00 west. The outphase

component, however, shows only a gentle change in slope, and

in the opposite direction. This suggests a Bone of moderate

bedrock conductivity, overlain by weakly conductive overburden,

j The other two axes of conductivity in the southeastern

corner of the claim block ('M' and *N'), are similar in

nature but not as clearly indicated; also they appear to be

shorter. This set of conductors {'L', IM I , 'N') is similar

to the set 'G*, 'H 1 , 'H^ 1 and 'Hg' on the western half of

the company's "South Block", and has a similar strike.

Two 7.L.F. anomalies lie along the western edge of

the claim block, south of the base line. One of these,

axis "O", was picked up at 27+50 south on line 27+00 west,

but is not indicated on the adjacent lines; it is similar

to "L" but appears to have a shallower source. The other

conductor axis, designated as axis 'P 1 , is located at 13+00 j

south on the same line, and is very weakly indicated on line

24+00 West at 14+00 south. This is a weaker response, and

is not clearly defined.

MAGNETOMETER RESULTS

The magnetic contours on the company's "West Block",

show that the relief in this area, is somewhat higher than

on the "East Block", due most likely to a thinner overburden

cover; this is especially true on the western part of the

property. The magnetic trend appears to be north-70o-west

(2900 ). This is in agreement with the observed strikes of

outcrop to the south of the claim block. To the north and

west, however, the trend seems to turn to the west (270 )

somewhat.

A major fault system, subsidiary to the main "Destor

Porcupine Fault", is known to cross the region, in a direction

of north-60 -west (300O ), to the northwest of the claim block.

There is some indication in the magnetics that this system

does indeed cross the southern part of the property in

that direction, and is indicated on the "Magnetometer Surrey"

Plan.

There are several magnetic features, which are

related to the V.L.F. anomalies and are therefore of some

importance. These are a series of lows which li* close to

the apparent location of the fault system, described in the

preceding paragraph. The two most pronounced of these lows,

coincide closely with conductor axes *P f and 'L 1 .

CONCLUSIONS

The zones of anomalous conductivity in the south

eastern corner of the property, as well as conductor axis "P",

lie in a series of magnetic lows along, or near, a large fault

system, which crosses the region and is subsidiary to the

main "Destor Porcupine Fault". It is possible that the

magnetic lows are caused by the process of carbonatization

of the underlying mafic metavolcanics along the fault system.

This set of circumstances is common in many areas containing

gold deposits in the region, and there are several gold

occurrences in areas of carbonatization, associated with the

fault cone in question, to the northwest.

For these reasons, I suggest that exploration of the

anomalous areas, referred to in the previous paragraph, be

carried into a second phase.

RECOMMENDATIONS

In order to further investigate the anomalous areas

selected from the geophysical survey, I recommend that an

overburden drilling program be carried out. This program

would consist of two series of vertical holes which would

penetrate to bedrock, and allow the collection of samples

of basal till and of bedrock.

One series of holes would be put down between 25-tOO

south and 33-rOO south on line 6400 west, and the other series

between 12-*00 south and 14*00 south on line 27*00 west.

Assuming that the depth of overburden is about 50 feet, this

would require some 20 holes for a total of approximately

1000 feet, using a fifty foot spacing. If gold values are

found in the basal till, the pattern would be closed in until

favourable bedrock results are obtained. Following this, a

diamond drilling program would be considered, if Justified

by the results of the overburden drilling phase.
