Supported Platforms
For the features described in this document, the following platforms are supported:
ACX Series
Using the Examples in This Manual
If you want to use the examples in this manual, you can use the loadmerge or the loadmerge relative command. These commands cause the software to merge the incomingconfiguration into the current candidate configuration. The example does not becomeactive until you commit the candidate configuration.
If the example configuration contains the top level of the hierarchy (or multiplehierarchies), the example is a full example. In this case, use the loadmerge command.
xixCopyright 2013, Juniper Networks, Inc.
If the example configuration does not start at the top level of the hierarchy, the exampleis a snippet. In this case, use the loadmerge relative command. These procedures aredescribed in the following sections.
Merging a Full Example
To merge a full example, follow these steps:
1. From the HTML or PDF version of the manual, copy a configuration example into atext file, save the file with a name, and copy the file to a directory on your routingplatform.
For example, copy the following configuration to a file and name the file ex-script.conf.Copy the ex-script.conf file to the /var/tmp directory on your routing platform.
system {scripts {commit {file ex-script.xsl;
}}
}interfaces {fxp0 {disable;unit 0 {family inet {address 10.0.0.1/24;
}}
}}
2. Merge the contents of the file into your routing platform configuration by issuing theloadmerge configuration mode command:
[edit]user@host# loadmerge /var/tmp/ex-script.confload complete
Merging a Snippet
To merge a snippet, follow these steps:
1. From the HTML or PDF version of the manual, copy a configuration snippet into a textfile, save the file with a name, and copy the file to a directory on your routing platform.
For example, copy the following snippet to a file and name the fileex-script-snippet.conf. Copy the ex-script-snippet.conf file to the /var/tmp directoryon your routing platform.
commit {file ex-script-snippet.xsl; }
2. Move to the hierarchy level that is relevant for this snippet by issuing the followingconfiguration mode command:

[edit]user@host# edit system scripts[edit system scripts]
3. Merge the contents of the file into your routing platform configuration by issuing theloadmerge relative configuration mode command:
[edit system scripts]user@host# loadmerge relative /var/tmp/ex-script-snippet.confload complete
For more information about the load command, see the CLI User Guide.

ACX Series Universal Access Router Overview
The ACX Series Universal Access Router is principally designed to provide superiormanagement for rapid provisioning to the access network. The ACX Series routers supportrich Gigabit Ethernet and 10-Gigabit Ethernet capabilities for uplink, along with supportfor legacy interfaces and Gigabit Ethernet interfaces for radio and NodeB connectivity ina compact form factor that is environmentally hardened and passively cooled. Seamless,end-to-end MPLS can be used to address legacy and emerging requirements to providethe foundation for a converged network that utilizes the same mobile backhaulinfrastructure for business or residential services.

ACX Series Router Architecture
The ACX Series router is a single-board router with a built-in Routing Engine and onePacket Forwarding Engine that has two pseudo Flexible PIC Concentrators (FPC 0 andFPC 1). Because there is no switching fabric, the single Packet Forwarding Engine takescare of both ingress and egress packet forwarding.
Routing EngineProvides Layer 3 routing services and network management.
Packet Forwarding EnginePerforms Layer 2 and Layer 3 packet switching, routelookups, and packet forwarding.

Junos OS
The ACX Series router is powered by Junos OS, supporting extensive L2 and L3 features,IP/MPLS with traffic engineering, rich network management, fault management, servicemonitoring and Operation, Administration, and Maintenance (OAM) capabilities, and anopen software development kit (SDK) system that allows providers to customize andintegrate operations with their own management systems. For a list of related Junos OSdocumentation, see http://www.juniper.net/techpubs/software/junos/
As part of the mobile backhaul, the ACX Series router at the cell site and the MX Seriesrouter at the aggregation layer provide comprehensive end-to-end Ethernet, MPLS, andOAM features with the one Junos OS running on both platforms.
Interfaces
The ACX Series routers support time-division multiplexing (TDM) T1 and E1 interfacesand Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE, 100GbE, 1000GbE copper, and 1GbE and 10GbE fiber)interfaces to support both the legacy and evolution needs of the mobile network. Supportfor Power over Ethernet Plus (PoE+) at 65 watts per port mitigates the need for additionalelectrical cabling for microwaves or other access interfaces.
Mobile Backhaul
In the mobile backhaul scenario, the ACX Series router is primarily used in the accesslayer as the cell site router and the MX Series router is used as the edge and aggregationrouter. As the cell site router, the ACX Series router connects the base station (BS) tothe packet network. Several cell site routers can be connected in a ring or hub-and-spokefashion to the upstream preaggregation and aggregation routers (MX Series routers).
The ACX Series router meets and often exceeds the key requirements for a cell site router.A one-rack unit (U) tall router, the ACX Series router is compliant with the EuropeanTelecommunications Standardization Institute (ETSI) 300, as well as environmentallyhardened and passively cooled for easy deployment where space and cooling are limitedas at the cell site.
Timing and synchronization are key elements in cell site router deployment. To deliverthe highest quality of experience, the ACX Series router supports multiple high-precisiontiming optionsfor example, Synchronous Ethernet, 1588v2, and Precision Time Protocol(PTP).
