YEAR
2013-2014
FOREWORD
It gives me great pleasure to present this consolidated annual report on the activities of
Gyanjyoti Foundation under various schemes of the Central & State Governments of the North
Eastern States.
Hence this consolidated report was put together. Since its inception in 2007, the Organization however, emphasized more on the significance of
education and thereafter gradually registered in the year 2011, under Section 3 of the Societies
Registration Act, 1860, to promote multi-dimensional educational activities to the cause of the
people-in-need in both rural and urban areas of the North Eastern Region. It has given due
stress on academic education, vocational education and Entrepreneurship & Skill Development.
Gyanjyoti Foundation has been implementing and extending diverse welfare activities for the
cause through campaigning community awareness, need-based vocational training, irrespective
of caste & creed or religion. It has completed more than seven years of services as on
31.03.2014.
The Activity Report for 2013-2014 will give the Readers an account of the numerous programs
conducted and implemented by Gyanjyoti Foundation. In the process of development, Gyanjyoti
Foundation has experienced the success and failure which have strengthened its vision and
capability to work more effectively for humanity. And I am sure that the activities initiated by
the Gyanjyoti Foundation will continue to grow further to reach newer heights to the cause in
ameliorating the suffering humanity.
I am very much obliged to those benevolent people, Departments and development agencies for
their constant support and immense cooperation and unstinted support have made it possible
to keep our development drive on-going. Further, I convey my heartfelt thanks to all our
Members of the Board of Management for their advice & cooperation. I am also very thankful to
the Administrative Staff of Gyanjyoti Foundation, the Teaching Faculties and Volunteers for
their tireless and firm efforts in different fields of programme activities initiated by the
Organization.

Advance the community of learning by engaging in scientific research, humanistic scholarship and artistic creation
Provide a high quality educational experience to students in a diverse learning environment – promoting the values and institutions of democracy that prepare students to lead lives of personal integrity and civic responsibility in a global society
Prepare the next generation of skilled and ethical professionals by providing excellent qualification /degree and professional education that prepares graduates to compete in a diverse world market

working with the sub groups based upon the three thematic areas that are of crucial concern to the sector.

A. ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT AND TECHNOLOGY (Approved by the Department
of Higher Education, Govt. of Assam and affiliated to GAUHATI UNIVERSITY & DIBRUGARH
UNIVERSITY) with the motto of LEARN & LEAD.
B. GYANJYOTI SKILL DEVELOPMENT PROGRAMME, a partner institute of Indira Gandhi
Technological and Medical Sciences University, Arunachal Pradesh under National
Community College of Skill Development, with the motto of LEARN & EARN.
AREA OF OPERATION:
Area of operation of this society will be confined to the Eight states of the North-East with further aim to spread its activities across India.
ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2013-2014
PART A GYANJYOTI SKILLS 1. SKILL DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE SCHEME 257 candidates were trained under the Skill Development Initiative Scheme approved by Department of Labour & Employment, Directorate of Employment & Craftsmen Training in the year 2013-14. The candidates were trained in various trades and henceforth 149 of the candidates were placed in jobs. 2. TRAINING PROGRAMME TO EDUCATED UNEMPLOYED YOUTHS OF ASSAM Assam Electronics Development Corporation – AMTRON sanctioned a Training Programme to Educated Unemployed Youths of Assam under the scheme of Mukhya Mantrir Tathya Prajukti Prashikshan Aru Niyog Achoni (MMTPPANA). The scheme covered training of 44 candidates in the trade of Computerized Accounting in Tally. Placement in jobs was provided to 23 candidates.
PART B ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT & TECHNOLOGY 1. SEMINAR ON BIODIVERSITY AND ITS AWARENESS:
Date: 19th March, 2014.
Resource Person: Assam State Biodiversity Board The main objective of the seminar is to make students aware of the importance of biodiversity and problems due to the lack of diversity in the ecosystem. The logic of sustainable development was discussed too.

2. NATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON INDIAN CAPITAL MARKET:
Date: 7th March, 2014.
Topic: “National Symposium on – An Analytical study on Indian Capital Market”

Conclusion: It was a great achievement on the part of the organizers to present the National symposium on Indian capital market. Several aspects of Indian Capital Market were discussed in the presence of an august gathering. The audience and participants got enlightened in various relevant issues of the Indian Capital Market.

3. SANSKRITI 2014: Date: 13th February, 2014. We have several cultural activities, which highlights the Artistic and Cultural Inclination of the students. The final day of Sanskriti is an annual event to appreciate all the participants and award the winners for their excellence. We also have a cultural extravaganza to keep up with the spirit of the event. The pictures showcase a myriad of events on the final day of Sanskriti 2014.
4. ANNUAL SPORTS 2014: The Annual Sports Event of Asian Institutions was held from 6th to 11th February, 2014. The venues for the outdoor games were Sports Authority of India (SAI) Field at Paltan Bazar and IOCL Stadium at Noonmati. The venue for the indoor games was the premises of the Institute. Students – both boys and girls- participated in events such as long jump, high jump, running race, relay race, tug-of-war, football tournament, cricket tournament, carom and chess. A spectacular cultural rally was taken out on the first day of the sports meet.
5. STREET PLAY ON HUMAN TRAFFICKING:
Date: 13th December, 2013.
Overview of the session: The main aim of the street play was to create awareness on human trafficking. The state of Assam is a vulnerable area for human trafficking and Guwahati is a transit point for trafficking. So, the dept. of mass communication, AIMT took an initiative to spread awareness on the issue.

Abstract of the Topic Presented: The seminar dealt with serious legal security issues in cyberspace from hacking, spoofing, defamation and privacy in cyberspace, importance of IP address, copyright violation and B2B, B2C, C2C business issues and P@P software.

7. NATIONAL LEVEL SEMINAR ON SERICULTURE IN ASSAM: Date: 3rd December, 2013.

Mukherjee, Deputy GM, NABARD The seminar met the overall expectations of the participants in gaining the insight into the problems and their remedies faced by sericulture industry and future prospects from a whole array of experts from different organizations of the Northeastern region. Effective recommendations were made for the progress in research and development in sericulture in the North-East.

8. REPORT ON “QUIZDOM QUEST” Date: 23rd November, 2013.
Overview of the session: The Academic Club of Management department conducted a quiz contest (QUIZDOM QUEST) on 23rd of November 2013 at AIMT Seminar Hall (Block A).The students of all the departments of AIMT/AIMS participated in the quiz. The questions were based on general knowledge. The program was sponsored by New Age Publishing House and Baruah Gift House who provided books and other gifts.

INVISIBLE COP SOFTWARE is computer network activity recording-monitoring-capturing software. The demonstration/awareness was very fruitful, interesting and encouraging to the students.
10. INGITED-IV Seminar on “Proactive Role of Media in the North Eastern Region of India” Date: 18th November, 2013. The Department of Mass Communication, AIMT also conferred this year’s recipient of the title Upcoming Journalist of the Year Award, 2013 to Mr. Utpal Sarma, a staff reporter in the Assamese daily Amar Asom for his notable contribution in the field of journalism. Asian Institute of Management and Technology under the aegis of Gyanjyoti Foundation instituted this award in the year 2012 to encourage young journalists in North East India. The seminar was informative and interactive. Apart from the students, many journalists also came to participate in the seminar which made the seminar highly interactive and interesting.

11. LAUNCHING OF WALL MAGAZINE ON NATIONAL PRESS DAY: Date: 16th November, 2013.
Overview of the session: The main aim of launching the wall magazine on national press day was to introduce the students to the entire gamut of the art of expression through words and making them understand about certain topics of interest.
12. AN INDUSTRIAL VISIT “LAKSHMI NARAYAN BEVERAGES” Date: 7th November, 2013.
Venue: Lakshmi Narayan Beverages Resource Person: Mr Abdul A1 Beverages
Overview of the session: The Beverage Industry is a mature sector and includes companies that market nonalcoholic and alcoholic items. Since growth opportunities are limited, many members of the industry endeavor to diversify their offerings to better compete and gain share. Beverage companies have capitalized on the popularity of energy drinks and ready-to-drink coffee. Product diversification may be achieved through internal or external means.

13. OPTICA-EYE DONATION/ AWARENESS CAMP Date: 8th November, 2013.
Organized By: Social and welfare department of Management Club, AIMT
Overview of the session: A team of three doctors headed by Dr. Hamanto Hazarika and Dr. Ranjita Rajendra, conducted the Eye Donation Awareness Program followed by the Free Eye Check-up Camp. The team was assisted by three efficient Technicians. The entire Eye camp was under a government Scheme; NPCB, in collaboration with Regional Institute of Ophthalmology, Gauhati Medical College and Hospital and Asian Institute of Management & Technology (AIMT) supported By Government of India. It was a great achievement on the part of the organizers that a total number of registered patients counted 130, including students and Civilians.

14. INDOOR GAME: Date: 4th November, 2013.
To inculcate a sportsmen spirit in the students, to create a platform for playing indoor games on regular basis after 2PM from Monday to Friday, to develop team work and working in partnership, to hone strategic skill building and to select the best among the students participating to represent the college at Inter college levels.

15. “PRE-DIWALI CELEBRATION” Date: 1st November, 2013.
Overview of the session: ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT & TECHNOLOGY and ASIAN INSTITUTE OF MANAGEMENT & SCIENCE celebrated Diwali on 1st of Nov, 2013. The competitions for the Student that were conducted are: PAINTING COMPETITION DIA PAINTING COMPETITION COLLAGE MAKING COMPETITION (Group event) RANGOLI COMPETITION (Group event) There is also the Programme of Dance and Singing after the competition. The event was organized by Management Club (UG).

Overview of the session: The main aim of the guest session was to introduce the emerging trend of setting up of a Public Relation department in public sector organization with a motive to get noticed in the media and henceforth get goodwill. The session was very informative and it was highly interactive. All the students and the faculty members of the dept. interacted with the guests.

17. “DENTAL CAMP (SMILE CAMP-2013): Date: 5th October, 2013.
Overview of the session: On the 5th of October 2013, At Asian Institute of Management Technology (AIMT) under the Management Club (social-welfare) in collaboration with Regional dental College, Guwahati (department of public health dentistry) and in association with Guwahati medical College and Hospital, Government of Assam, a dental camp was organized mainly targeting the under privilege section of the society and for the students of AIMT. A team of 30 (25 Doctors, 5 Assistants) led By Dr. Arsad Bin Hussain (HoD) and Dr. Prodyut Narzary conducted the diagnosis and treatment proceedings.
18. INAUGURATION OF “WALL MAGAZINE” Date: 3rd October, 2013.
Overview of the session: On 3rdOct, 2013 ARTURE department of management club, AIMT organized the inauguration of the Wall magazine of the management department. On that day, the wall Magazine was inaugurated by the chief guest Mr. Gaurav Gogoi and respected HOD of Management Department, Dr. Devajit Mahanta. The theme of the wall magazine was “Women Empowerment”.
19. A GUEST LECTURE ON “A GLIMPSE OF BIOTECH PARK AND ADVANCEMENT IN UV-VIS SPECTROPHOTOMETER”

Overview of the session: A glimpse of Biotech Park and advancement in UV-Vis spectrophotometer was given by Dr. Bula Choudhury of Guwahati Biotech Park. Objective of the session was to give a glimpse of Biotech Park to all the students of Biological Sciences and to apprise the student about the modern technology available in the field of biotechnology and mode of functioning of Biotech Park.
20. HEALTH CHECK UP CAMP: Date: 16
th September, 2013.
Health is still a concerned and serious issue. The Department of Biological Sciences, Asian Institute of Management and Technology (AIMT) organized a Health Check up camp on 16th September, 2013, to discuss the problems students face because of ill health. Students were made aware of the importance of fitness and of the problems of obesity and being underweight.
21. AN AWARENESS PROGRAMME ON ANTI RAGGING LAWS: Dated: 16th September, 2013.

Overview of the session: The main aim of the seminar was to make students aware of the various anti-ragging laws which we have in our constitution. "Ragging in all its forms is totally banned in this institution. Cancellation of admission against those found guilty of ragging and/or of abetting ragging and the burden of proof shall hereby lie on the perpetrator of alleged ragging and not on the victim.

22. SEMINAR ON ECONOMIC CONDITION OF INDIA:
On 9th September, 2013, Dr. Amiya Kr.Sharma, Executive Director of Rashtiya Gramin Vikas Nidhi (RGVN) visited our
institute and addressed the students on the topic - economic condition of India - where we are lagging and how we can do
better in our economy. He also spoke on the causes for devaluations of Indian Rupee. He explained the positive factors and
the negative factors of India that is having an impact on Indian Economy like population, Per Capita Income, Human
Development Index etc. The session was an interactive session and was fruitful.
23. GUEST LECTURE SESSION ON MEDIA TECHNOLOGY. Date: 6th September, 2013.
Resource Person: MR. BISNU SAIKIA , RESEARCH SCHOLAR, DEPT. OF MASS COMMUNICATION, GAUHATI UNIVERSITY The session was very informative and it was highly interactive. All the students and the faculty members of the dept. interacted with the guests.

Overview of the session: Entrepreneurship Awareness programme was held on 20th August 2013 by Dept. of Management, AIMT in association with Indian Institute of Entrepreneurship. It was two day long workshop to create awareness about the significance of entrepreneurship with the help of certain real time entrepreneur and experts from IIE.
25. AN INTERACTION OF DIGNITARIES FROM UNIVERSITY OF MYSORE WITH AIMT
AUTHORITY AND FACULTY MEMBERS: Three dignitaries including the Honourable Registrar of University of Mysore paid a visit to the Institute on 31st August, 2013 and interacted with the college authorities and the faculty members. Much relevant information about the University and its courses along with the academic rules were discussed in the seminar hall of the Institute. This interaction was of great academic value and it was a step towards a stronger relationship between the University and the Institute.

26. PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION CUM EXHIBITION – PICTOGRAM:
Asian institutions organized their annual photography competition cum exhibition “Pictogram-13”. The themes for
the competition were portraits, nature, patterns, colors, temples, urbanization, and food.
The judge for the event was renowned photographer and environmentalist Mr. Dinesh Choudhury.
27. INDUSTRIAL EXPOSURE TO HINDUSTAN COCO-COLA BEVERAGES PVT. LTD.
Industrial visit is considered one of the most tactical methods of teaching because it provides students with an opportunity to
learn practically through interaction, working methods, employment practices and it gives exposure from an academic point
of view, so the students of Asian institutions has been taken to the Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Pvt. Ltd., Byrnihat , on
27th August 2013.The visit was fruitful as the the students gained knowledge and practical experience out of the visit.
28. WORKSHOP ON PERSONALITY GROOMING AND BODY LANGUAGE:
A workshop on Personality Grooming and Body Language was organized by Gyanjyoti Foundation. The valuable lecture was delivered by Mr.Gaurav Khemka, Director of IMS, Guwahati. The lecture was quite interesting and informative. It was attended by students and teachers alike.
29. A VISIT TO SECURITIES EXCHANGE BOARD OF INDIA, NEDFI HOUSE, GUWAHATI, ASSAM: The students with two escorted faculty members paid a visit to The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI). The students got the knowledge about stock market, BSE SENSEX, NSE NIFTY, Types of companies etc. It was an informative and interesting visit. The students of BBA have learnt various investment policies and the rules and regulations that a company has to follow.
