Mental Health Special Edition Recap(reflects only Active Minds Events, but thanks also to
Gender Health, HNF, and SHA’s for co-hosting the week’s events):
Monday, Feb. 28 -Free Hugs Giveaway: Complete with SHABear costume, hugs and flyers were given to all for Mental Health week on Bruin Walk. Someone even got a little frisky with the SHABear (aren’t you lucky David Guan?) ;D. Tuesday, March 1st: -UCLA’s 1st Annual Mental Health Week received front page coverage in the Daily Bruin. -Love.My.Life Cardmaking: LML took frisbee giveaway. Pretty successful overall, gave away a lot of frisbees which means lots of LML cards. Thanks to our enthusiastic new members for helping out! -Stress Workshop: A Stress Workshop was held in CAPS conference room, where Workshop Committee members Chanel, Wendy, and Bonnie presented on how to prevent/ reduce stress in our daily lives. After the workshop, participants made stress balls with flour and used them to play a game to win raffle tickets. In the end, a UCLA basketball was raffled off! The winner was one of our presenters, Chanel. Congrats! Wednesday, March 2nd: -Depression Workshop: A Depression Workshop was held in CAPS conference room, where we presented on topics such as how to identify signs of depression, how to reach out for help, and how to reduce the likelihood of developing depression. At the workshop, we did a beading activity to keep the audience engaged. We raffled off a UCLA football in the end. Thursday, March 3rd: -QPR Training: March 3, 2011: Dr. Robert Corb led a QPR session on Thursday night in the Ackerman 2nd floor lounge. This event was co-programmed by Active Minds and fellow SWC committee Gender Health. More than 30 people showed up, which includes many non-members as well. It was a great opportunity to open up QPR to the whole campus! Many people found it helpful and useful.
Upcoming Events:
Tuesday, April 12th 6-8 P.M. at CAPS: -First General Meeting of Spring: Come help prepare for the upcoming events of Bruin Health Week and find out about what you missed at retreat! Tuesday, April 19th 7-10 P.M. at De Neve A1 and B1 Lounges: -Chillax to the Max: Active Minds joins SHAs in coprogramming a distressing event by tabling. Make sure to come!
