Some people live in eternalinsecurity. They can never be sure,no matter what they do or dont do,that they will go to Heaven when they die. Its enough to makea nervous wreck out of anybodyand I once read about aman that it did just that to.

He had received Jesus as his Savior and tried his best to liveaccording to Jesus teachings, but found he couldnt live up toother peoples standards, what they said was necessary to meritsalvation. According to them, every time he made a mistake orhad an unholy thought, he lost his salvation and was right backwhere he had started, a lost sinner.

Finally he wound up a nervous wreck and was hospitalized. While recuperating in the hospital, he spent much of his timereading the Bible. One day he read Ephesians 2:89: By graceyou have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; itis the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boastandhe finally got the point. Salvation wasnt dependent on anythingthat he had done or could do beyond believing that Jesus haddied for sinners like himself. He got so excited about this simpletruth that he felt better immediately and started sharing hisdiscovery with everybody around him: Do you know that all you

have to do to be saved is believe , thats all? Just believe! Godsgrace plus your faith plus nothing!

And he was so right! Were saved by grace through faithnot by good works, or by being perfect, or doing penance,or keeping an endless list of dos and donts. Jesus has alreadydone it all! And just like you are saved by grace, you are kept by grace. You dont need to worry about losing your salvation, because you cant! Once saved, always saved!

Liz was a pretty, diminutivewomanmy moms best friend. Iknew her from the private tennis

club where we were membersand where I also worked in thepro shop after school and onthe weekends. Her taking timeto chat as peers earned Liz highmarks with me.

Times changed and so didI. Once a conservative, shy,middle-class kid, universityin the late 60s saw me morphinto a searching, lost, and veryintense hippie dropout. Onone of my many quests to findmeaning in life, I visited allthose who had influenced mylife for good. Of course, thisincluded Liz. Knocking on theirdoor unannounced, she andher husband, quiet Big John, received this wild-eyed, ragged

acquaintance from the past without prejudice oralarm. I sat and presented theman older, upper-middle-class couplewith all my far-out theories

and trippy ideas of the youth rebellion. If they rolledtheir eyes or winked at each other, I didnt notice.

Providence had a hand on me, as about a yearlater I found what I was searching for. A friend toldme how he had prayed and received Jesus as hisSavior, and I did likewise. I decided to dedicate mylife to Jesus, and a few years later He showed meto leave the U.S. and reach out to the young peopleof New Zealand and Australia. Moving back to theWest Coast to make preparations for this mission, Iremembered Liz. I had recently heard that she wassuffering from a terminal d isease and was on herdeathbed. As I was visiting my mother at the time, she and I made arrangements to see Liz.

My old friend, who had been tolerant of anunannounced radical hippie visitor a few yearsback, was on guard at meeting an announced truebeliever. She had Parkinsons disease, in thelatter stages. Lying on her chaise longue, with herhusband and mother attending, she listened as

I chatted with her and filled her in on what hadtranspired in my life since our last meeting. Shewas amazed that someone had made so many

changes in such a short timenice young man, tobizarre hippie, to full-time volunteer ready to gooverseas. But she was embittered toward religionand hard as nails concerning any mention of itbeyond hearing me out about my experiences.

Seeing her tire, I knew it was time to go. SinceI probably wouldnt be able to see her again, aftersending a short telegram to Heaven in the formof a prayer for help, I felt led to take the plunge andask Liz if she would like to say a short prayer withme. After what seemed like a long period of silence,to the amazement of everyone presentincludingmeshe simply said yes.

Kneeling beside her, I took her hand and weclosed our eyes. First I felt my mothers hand joinours, then Lizs moms. Just as I star ted to pray, Ifelt Big Johns hand clamp down on ours as well. Not only Liz, but all repeated the simple salvationprayer, inviting Jesus to come into their hearts. When we finished, not one eye was dry.

Liz lived for several moremonths before moving on toHeaven. During that time her

life completely changed. Sheavidly read her Bible, and thuswas full of joy and faith, trustingGod to heal her or take herHomewhatever His will was.Being an accomplished artist, shecontinued her painting, lying onher chaise longueand she sentthe proceeds from her sales tome in New Zealand. It helped usestablish our work for the Lordthere, which continues to this day.

Heaven is a place populatedby those you invite to join youthere. Looking forward to seeingyou, Liz!

mercy prevails According to a Jewish legend, before creating Adam, the

first man, God took into His counsel the angels that stoodabout His throne.

Create him not, said the Angel of Justice, for if You do,he will commit all kinds of wickedness against his fellowman. He will be hard and cruel and dishonest and unrighteous.

Create him not, said the Angel of Truth, for he will befalse and deceitful to his fellowman, and even to You.

Create him not, said the Angel of Holiness, for he willfollow that which is impure in Your sight, and dishonor You to

Your face. Then the Angel of Mercy, Gods most beloved, stepped

forward and said. Create him, Father, for when he sins andturns from the path of right and truth and holiness, I will takehim tenderly by the hand and lead him back to You.

When William Holman Hunt (18271910) unveiled hisnow-famous painting Christ, the Light of the World , one criticthought he detected an oversight. You forgot something, heremarked. Theres no knob on the door.

I thought of that, said the artist, but this is the door tothe human heart. It can be opened only from the inside!

Jesus is the very picture of patience, calmness, love, gentleness, and longsuffering. Hes the picture of tenderness, gently wooinglike a dove. He goes where there are open, receptive, hungryhearts. He seeks out the humble and contrite hearts, but resiststhe proud. He waits lovingly and meekly at your hearts door, notforcing Himself on you, not pushing the door open, but waiting foryou to simply open your heart and invite Him to come in.

Jesus promised, Behold, I stand at the door and knock. Ifanyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him

(Revelation 3:20). When you open your hearts door to Jesus, Healways comes in. He likes to fill every place thats made for Him. Ifyou will just open your heart, His Spirit of love will flow in.

If you havent yet received Jesus as your Savior, you can rightthis minute by asking Him to come into your heart with His love, life, liberty, truth, peace, plenty, and happiness here, now, andforever. Simply pray:

Jesus, I believe You are the Son of God. Please forgive me for my mistakes and shortcomings, come into my heart, and give me Your gift of eternal life. Amen.

Salvation is by faithpure and simple!Salvation is the result of believing: Believe inthe Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved(Acts 16:31 NIV). If you get an emotional high orsome other physical manifestationa feelingof any kindthat is a bonus and beside thepoint. You are saved by faith in Gods Word, because He promised you salvation if youwould meet His simple, single condition: believe.

Youre not saved by your feelings .It doesnt matter how you feel, because Gods

Word is unchanging and is not affected by that. Its your faith that counts. If you believe the Word, regardless of how you feel, youre saved! Even-tually you probably will have some feeling, but itis not the experience or the feeling that savesyou; that is a result of your being saved.

Gods plan from the beginning is based onfree choice your choice. God gave us free willto either choose to receive Jesus or to reject

Him. Salvation is there for you. Its yours, readyfor the taking, but you must make the decision.

Salvation is there, and it is a free gift. All youhave to do is reach out your hand of faith andreceive it. Salvation is a miracle of God, butits yours for the asking. All you have to do is

receive Jesus into your heart. Hes there, wait-ing to come in.

Believe and youre saved. Period! Plusnothing! The Word plus faith plus nothing!Thats it! If you believe the Word and receiveHim, its done! Of course, if you are thankfulfor Jesus love and the gift of salvation, yourlife will show it (James 2:1718). But the instantyou believe, its done, before you even have achance to thank Him or show Him how muchyou love Him in return.

Salvation is not a reward. Its not payment foranything good you may have done or anythingbad you may have not done. It is a gift thatyou dont earn and cant earn by any kind ofworks of your own. By grace you have beensaved through faith, and that not of yourselves;it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyoneshould boast (Ephesians 2:89).

All you have to do is receive it. Thats what

He means by not of yourselves. The one thingyou have to do, anybody can do, even a littlechild: Receive it. You dont have to work upsome emotional experience. You dont haveto pray it down or work it up. You just have toreceive Him, thats all. Plus nothing!

DONE DEAL You dont need to worry about whether or not you are going to lose your salvation

or how you are going to manage to stay saved, because eternal salvation by gracemeans once saved, always saved. Once youve received Jesus Christ as your Savior, there are no ifs, ands, or buts about ityou are a saved child of God! He whobelieves in the Son has everlasting life (John 3:36). That one verse should beenough to end all your worries. You have eternal l ife right now, and you cant lose it.

Besides, you cant keep yourself saved any more than you could save yourself inthe first place. Even though youre not perfect and youre bound to make mistakes,God is going to save you anyway. Salvation is forever. Hes already given it to you,and Hes not going to take it back. Its yours!

Please know that I love you,and I will always love you. As

you go through life, that isprobably going to be one of

    your biggest teststo be able

to believe in My love for you. Many people are tested sostrongly on that point that they lose all faith. They becomeso confused by the spiritualstruggle that is going on insidethem that they feel the only way they can go on, the only way they can cope, is to tellthemselves that I dont exist, that it is all just fantasy. Of course, it is not simply themtelling themselves that; it isthe enemy of their soul, theDevil, telling them that. He hasusually been attacking theirfaith for a long time, trying todestroy what faith they had,and finally he is able to comealong and put what he believes

are going to be the last nailsin the coffin, convincing themthat I am not even real and thatMy Word is just a myth.

But I am real! Even these

who have reached such depthsof discouragement know thatI am real and that I am everpresent. The trouble is thatthey feel I could no longerpossibly love them, and thatMy Word would never again work for them. That thought isso painful that in self-defensethey have hardened theirhearts and found it mucheasier to go along with whatthe Devil and others are telling themthat I am a lie.

But am I a lie? Is My love alie? You know that I am not alie and that My love is true. Iknow that at times you may feel that I can no longer love you, and that perhaps you

dont deserve for Me to evenbe concerned with you or what you are doing. You may at times find it hard to believethat My Word will work for

you or that you can claim My promises, but that isnt true.I am just as real for you now

as I ever was. Im married to youforever. There will beno bill of divorcement. Evenif the Enemy tells you that

youve written up the divorcepapers yourself and signedthem, I will never sign. I wi llalways be your Husband, yourProtector, your Savior, yourGuardian. I will never leave you comfortless.

Of course, there areconditions to My promises of blessing and protection. Those who do their best to stay closeto Me and to do what they know to be right wil l receive

more help and support andblessings in all they do.

I am not giving you a licenseto go and do as you please witha devil-may-care attitude and

think that youll still be able tocount on My abundant bless-ings. Those who follow thatkind of lifestyle will have a big price to pay, much more than

you could possibly imagine, asso many have already foundout. They paid the price fortheir short-lived pleasures. Still,I promise that no matter whathappens, I will never leave you.Ill always be ready to standby your side when you wantMe. Nothing can take you away from Menothing! Nothing will separate you from My love. Please know that that is true.

Sometimes the voice of My Spirit will be warning you, chiding you, cautioning

you, and you must heed thisvoice. Other times you willhear voices that simply tell

you thoughts of woethat youare no good, that things are

hopeless, that nothing will ever work out for you, that no oneloves you, and so forth. TheDevil will seek to put thoughtsand feelings of misery, despon-dency, condemnation, andeven depression within yourmind. These thoughts wil loften swarm about you at thesame time as the fears anddoubts that I dont love you, that I dont care, that Im notthere for you at all. These areall lies of Satan and part of hisspirit of misery and depression.

Please reach out for Me andcall on Me when these feelingscome upon you, because if youstart to accept and believe theDevils lies, even about yourself

and your abilities, then hecan keep working on you until youre convinced youre a totalfailure, no good, and that noone and nothing can help you

not even Me. Dont believe him when he tells you no one loves you, because I do. Dont believehim when he tells you that yourlife is hopeless, because it isnot . Dont let him tell you I haveforsaken you, because I willnever forsake you.

Wherever you go, I wi ll go; you will never have to be alone.I wil l always be there for you.I wil l always love you. I amalways waiting for you to cometo Me and pour out your heartto Me. Please dont think that you are too bad for Me or thatI will no longer speak to you.Its up to you. If you want Meclose to you, I wi ll be there. Ipromise.

    You cannever

My husband and I had recently moved toa new country with our six children, agesthree to 16, and quickly fell in love with ouradopted home. Between our work, caring forour children, trying to learn the language, and homemaking, my husband and I wereplenty busy but also very happy.

When I became pregnant again, I was gen-uinely happy but also a little nervous aboutcoping with the usual discomforts of early pregnancy when there was already so muchelse to be done. Im normally healthy andactive, but as this pregnancy progressed I got weaker and weaker and had to rest a lot morethan I was used to. That gave me more quiettime with the Lord, but instead of seeing the

blessing in that, I viewed my weakness as abig problem. One evening, as I was helping to lead a

Bible study at a f riends home, I suddenly started having strong cramps andhemorrhaged. I was rushed to the hospital.Tests showed that the baby was fine, but I hadlost a lot of blood. I would need to stay in thehospital until my condition stabilized and Iregained some strength.

The next morning I hit an all-time low physically and emotionally. I couldnt situp or feed myself or do anything withouthelp. It was embarrassing, frustrating, andhumiliating. I hid under my blanket so noone would see me, and I started to cry. I madeit through that first day, but what a day!

Then that evening the most amazing thing happened. I looked up and saw Jesusstanding by my bed, smiling down at me! He

took me by the hand, and said He wantedto spend some time with me. My spirit leftmy sick, tired body behind, He led me out of the hospital room, and suddenly we were inHeaven together! We didnt have to travel we were just there.

There were beautiful plants all around, stars overhead, and soft, glowing lights. We were in a sort of outdoor pavilion surroundedby tall marble pillars, with a wide railing al laround it. Beautiful, slow, romantic music was playing, and He held me in His arms. Forthe longest time we rocked back and forth, like we were slow dancing. I didnt even wantto talk. I just wanted to rest on His shoulder. His hair was soft, and I kept running my

fingers through it. It felt so good to be withHim! I think we talked a little, but I dontremember what was said. He made me feelrelaxed and calm, and I was overwhelmed by His love.

Some very sweet music began playing andHe took a step back, as though He wantedto watch me dance for Him, so I did. ThenHe said the sweetest thing. Leaning againsta pillar with His arms folded, watching meand smiling, He said tenderly, I just love to watch you! It didnt matter that I was over 40,pregnant, and not a particularly good dancer. He couldnt have loved me more! He was sonatural and easy to be with, and I was having such a wonderful time.

Then suddenly it was over and I was back in the hospital bed, still t ingling a ll overand thinking, Wow! It had been unbeliev-able, yet so real!

    What happened was so out-of-this-world

that it is hard for me to put it into words.

Its even harder for most people to believe.

I didnt tell anyone elseabout that experience for fearthat they would think I hadlost my mind. But after that,my outlook on my presentcircumstances became a lotmore positive. The wholehospital experience stoppedlooking so grim, and I began tofeel a lot more at peace.

The next day I was lying inbed and listening to a tape when Jesus suddenly appearedagain. I know you love todance, He said, so come on!I grabbed His hand, and off we went. It felt so good to be outof bed!

We were in the samepavilion, but this time there was a band playing the mostgorgeous live music. There were also singers all around, singing all sorts of songs andharmonizing. We werent

just rocking back and forththis time, but we were really dancing. I was shocked at whata good dancer He was! I guessI had never thought about thatbefore, but He was just great!

At first we danced to someold ballroom numbers, andHe knew all the steps. He heldme close and laughed andseemed to be enjoying Himself a lot. We talked away, but Hecould also read my thoughtsand would sometimes laughat what I was thinking, likemy being surprised that Hecould dance so well. WhenHe laughed, it was nevercondescending but more likeHe was enjoying the things

I was thinking. He had such a great senseof humor! I was very excited, and we werehaving so much fun.

At one point I remember thinking, Wait aminute! I am dancing with Jesus. Hes taking all this t ime with me, but Hes supposed to berunning the whole universe! He must have alot more important things to do!

He chuckled again, drew me closer, and whispered in my ear, Remember, I can bein more than one place at a time! Then Helooked at me and smiled and added, Thatsone of the advantages of being the Sonof God! He was so funny! I laughed andlaughed at some of the things He said.

He was so human and understanding. Inever felt condemned in the slightest, eventhough He and I both knew how imperfect I was. He just patiently explained things, andthen we would laugh and dance some more.

When the dances got faster, He cut loose.Everybody around just loved to watch Him.

When I became enthralled by the music,He paused and said, Thats why the kind of music you listen to is so important. Its very

important that it glorifies Me, because itsa vehicle! And I understood that He meantthat music could actually transport us. I dontfully understand it now, but it made perfectsense at the time.

At another point, a huge crowd hadassembled to sing His praise, literally, andeveryone was very excited that He had cometo hear them. Up til l then, the other peoplehad all been in the background and Id hadJesus pretty much to myself. I knew it wasntright to feel that way, but a wave of jealousy swept over me. He read my thoughts again, and gave me the biggest hug. He remindedme that I had spent the past 20 years trying toteach others to love Him too, and now I couldsee how wonderful it was that everyone therein Heaven did love Him. Again, He wasnt theslightest bit condescending or judgmental

    just wonderfully understanding. Suddenly

Eye has notseen, nor earheard, norhave enteredinto the heartof man the things which

God hasprepared for those who loveHim. But Godhas revealed them to us through HisSpirit. For theSpirit searchesall things, yes, the deep things of God(1 Corinthians2:910).

I didnt feel jealous at all. I stepped back and enjoyed watching others perform forHim and Him joining in. He soaked up theirpraises, as they soaked up His love.

Then another song began to playvery majestic! We all stepped back and He beganto rise into the air. The song filled the air, louder and louder, and Jesus began to glow and became larger and larger, fi lling thesky. He was shining and was every inchthe Son of God, Lord of lords, and King of kings. We were all singing, looking up at Himand marveling that while He is a Man andunderstands us so well, He is also King overall creation and sits at the right hand of God!It was overwhelming!

Tears were streaming down my cheeks whenboom!I was back in my hospitalbed.

I was flabbergasted. I had been to Heaven!I lay there, thanking the Lord over and over, and thinking about it again and again, trying to relive it. When my husband came, I wasstill so excited that I had to tell him aboutitand he took it very well.

That was the last time it happened, butthroughout the rest of my hospitalizationand recovery, whenever I was tempted toget down, I would remind myself that all thepain and discomfort I was experiencing was worth it, because I had danced with Jesus. My bleeding eventually stopped, I began to feelstronger, and another ultrasound showedthat the baby was fine. After five days in thehospital, I was able to go home.

Those spiritual experiences changedmy life. I wish I could say that now I ameverything I would like to beunfailingly loving, kind, patient, and a ll sorts of greatthingsbut that hasnt happened. Im stil lme and stil l have my share of faults. But it hashelped me to look at things in a different way.Jesus is nearer and dearer than ever.
