My third club Aylmer Civitan, past Governor Ted and I are going to be at the Aylmerinformation night on Thursday November 22nd, Past Governor Ted will give a short talk on Civitan International andI will talk briefly on our district and then have the pleasure on installing at least one new member and hopefully pavethe way for others to join, if not that night, at a future meeting.

Just a follow up on the visitation barrel, I, along with 7 other members of the Chateauguay Club, brought the barrelto them as part of an invitation from their club in response to my challenge to be the most friendly club 2012/2013 andadvising the Brockville Club that we were coming 'en masse'. AYLMER

Our club has been very busy in the last few months, and busy planning some upcoming events. W e are currently

heavily involved in the Claxton Fruit Cake campaign, with selling dates at various shopping centers and Government

buildings over the next several weeks. W e are also hosting an Information Night on November 22nd where several

potential Civitans will attend and a high probability that at least one will join our club.

AYLMER CIVITAN OF THE YEAR AW ARD

Each year the Aylmer Civitans vote for one of our members who has worked

exceptionally hard over the past year to advance the goals of Civitan. At our recent

Awards night the Aylmer Civitan of the Year award was presented to Ms. Doris

Erwin who in her short time as a member has made an enormous contribution to

the club and the community. She has successfully led major projects such as the

Charity Auction we held last year, as well was instrumental in organizing the Rock

& Rythme project which provided students from seven schools in the area a forum

to display their musical talents. Congratulations to Doris from her fellow Civitan

members and the community.

DISNEY TRIP FOR SPECIAL NEEDS

Aylmer Civitan Past President Marcel Vachon presents a cheque to Jill McKnight who

organizes a trip to Disneyland for a group of special needs persons every year. The

club's contribution will help pay for traveling and accommodation expenses. Also

pictured is Suzanne, who will be part of the group going to Disneyland. The funds for

this donation was made possible through the contribution from the generous people

of Aylmer to our club's various fund raisers.

INFORMATION NIGHT

As some of you may know, long time Civitan Marcel Vachon has decided to leave the Civitan family to pursue other

community oriented activities. Marcel was one of the early members of the Aylmer

club, and with a short absence for a couple of years, has been a real force within the

club for decades. He has held many executive offices, most recently as President,

President-Elect or Past President since 2007 to 2012 . However over the years

Marcel did not restrict himself to Civitan related community work. He was also on

many Boards of Directors, as well as served in leadership roles in several other local

community associations. W e Aylmer Civitans will miss Marcel's sense of humor at

our various events, however we know that Marcel will continue to contribute to his

community in the future as he has done so

exceptionally in the past. To recognize Marcel's

dedication to Civitan for so many years, our club voted to make him an Honorary

Civitan. The only other local person upon whom we have bestowed this honor is well

know community volunteer, Max Keeping. In the photo below our current president,

Mark W right, presents Marcel with the award.

As they say behind every great man there is a great woman, And Marcel is no different.

His wife Aline has been very supportive of Civitan for as long as Marcel. Marcel's wife,

Aline was also presented with an award to recognize her contribution to Civitan and the

community over the years. These presentations were made at the celebration of their 35th wedding anniversary!!

CARLETON PLACE & DISTRICTCarleton Place Hosted an Open House on November 1 with Governor Bryan W iltsie

and Lt. Governor Bill Lawrence installing 3 new members into our club. The people in

the installation photo are: (left to right) Jeff Lay, Civ. Tom Baker, Robbie Aitkenhead,

Civ. Heather Legge, Brian Tysick, & Civ. Ron Legge.

Also included is a picture taken of the attending club

members of the Carleton Place & District Civitan Club

(at the Open House). Not a bad looking group of

Civitans. Here is a challenge to all the CDE clubs, lets

get some group pictures in the newsletter. It's a great

way to get to know one another.

W e have had a very busy fall season this year, we donated our time at a school

barbeque, looked after a 50/50 draw at a fund raising music show for upgrades to the

Carleton Place Town Hall 3rd floor, and completed our McNeely Road Clean Up. W e

held our first Open House for this year and celebrated with the installation of 3 new members. This past weekend we

hosted the CDE Board meeting luncheon. It was really nice to be able to give back in a small way when we don't have

a hall to host more events. W e are currently gearing up for our Santa Claus parade on the 24th of November. On

December 1 we are hosting a Kids Fun Event in co-operation with the local BIA. Civitan Kelly Reid and her committee

have been working hard to put everything in place for this event. Lots of great things are planned. Also on December

1 & 2 we are volunteering our time at the Christmas House Tour being put on by the hospital. On December 8 several

of us are planning on joining the Lanark Club for a Pot Luck Christmas event. All this while still hosting our weekly

bingo. W e have been very fortunate this year and have been able to make more local donations than normal. This

makes us all very proud and truly makes the hard work worthwhile. Carleton Place Civitans while not great in numbers

are avid team members and give their all when needed. Anybody wanta buy some Claxton Cake. W e'd love to sell

you some. Better hurry, it's going fast.

Please check out our new website at www.carletonplacecivitan.com it's pretty cool. W e are very proud of it and cannot

thank our own Civitan Janet Fitzpatrick enough for making it all happen.

As this festive season draws nearer please accept our Holiday W ishes and Great Tidings for the New Year. W hy not

come and visit us! W e'd love to have you. W e meet on the 1st & 3rd Thursdays @ 7:00 pm. Contact Sue Baker

anytime.

CHATEAUGUAY

Meals on W heels has been re-scheduled to start in January 2013. A successful Fall Brunch was held on October 19.

A Program Night on October 30 saw two representatives from Mackay Center for hearing impaired doing a

presentation on listening devices. W e have begun selling Claxton Fruitcakes. W e will be very active all the month of

December selling various holiday goodies.

A Blue Grass group will be starting November 24th. Jam sessions and bands from 2pm-11pm. Beer, wine and soft

drinks will be available all day. Civitan Paul is cooking a big ham and 40 lbs of potatoes. President Louise is busy

soliciting merchants for donations for our Christmas Baskets for needy families. Our December General Meeting will

be a turkey supper and social. Bingo is still our main fund raiser and $13,000 has been distributed so far.

W e have five more members since the last Civitan Action Line. Several of our members are planning to attend the

February convention.

QUILT W INNER

The winning ticket (#908) was sold by one of our Chateauguay Valley Quilters. The winner is GORD HELPS, of Perth,

ON. If you go onto the Chateauguay Civitan Club website, www.chatcivitan.com, you will see the photograph taken

the day that the draw was held at our club. In the photograph are Civitan Jessie, Gord's sister Llynnda Doerner and

mother Joan Helps who accepted the quilt on Gord's behalf.

PERTH JUNIOR CIVITANS

W e thought we’d give a quick u p d a te o n w h a t w e h a v e b e e n

working on since we formed in early October. Oct 15th we gathered

to discuss election positions and responsibilities, as well we voted to participate in the

upcoming Halloween events. Oct 22nd we helped bag 850 bags of candy to be

handed out at the Crystal Palace Halloween event. Oct 29th we held elections and are

pleased to report all of the positions are filled… but we are not planning to do the

official installations until sometime in the New Year, due to our busy schedules. W e

also voted to sell Christmas cakes and we committed to helping at the Senior Civitan

Small Business Dinner Dec 7-8th. Oct 31st nine of us youth performed at the Haunted

House Halloween event - it was a blast!!

As of November 1st, we have 14 youth officially registered with Junior Civitan International. Nov 5th we discussed our

plans to decorate a Christmas tree at the Crystal Palace. W e also made a get well

card for one of our youth members who was very ill in hospital. Nov 12th we had our

regular meeting and then worked together to create Christmas cards for seniors.

Tomorrow (Nov 14th ) we’ll be at the Crystal Palace decorating our Junior Civitan

Tree.

Next week we will vote on some other upcoming events that we have received

invitations from the Senior Civitan club, and we will advise them on where we can

help. As a new group we are still fine tuning everything, but so far we have kept

busy with events … and we sure are looking forward to an exciting and fulfilling

Christmas season.

Yours in Civitan – The Perth Junior’s, November 13/12.

GETTING OLDER

I very quietly confided to my best friend that I was having an affair. She turned to me and asked, 'Are you having it catered'?

Just before the funeral services, the undertaker cameup to the very elderly widow and asked,'How old was your husband?''98,' she replied: 'Two years older than me''So you're 96,' the undertaker commented. She responded, 'Hardly worth going home, is it?'

Reporters interviewing a 104-year-old woman: 'And what do you think is the best thingabout being 104?' the reporter asked. She simply replied, 'No peer pressure.'

I've sure gotten old! I've had two bypass surgeries, a hip replacement, new knees, fought prostate cancer and diabetes I'm half blind, can't hear anything quieter than a jet engine, take 40 different medications that make me dizzy, winded, and subject to blackouts. Have bouts with dementia. Have poor circulation;hardly feel my hands and feet anymore. Can't remember if I'm 85 or 92. Have lost all my friends. But, thank God,I still have my driver's license.

I feel like my body has gotten totally out of shape,so I got my doctor's permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour.. But,by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.

An elderly woman decided to prepare her will andtold her preacher she had two final requests. First, she wanted to be cremated, and second, she wanted her ashes scattered over W al-Mart.'W al-Mart?' the preacher exclaimed. 'W hy W al-Mart?''Then I'll be sure my daughters visit me twice a week'

These days about half the stuffin my shopping cart says, 'For fast relief.'

THE SENILITY PRAYER: Grant me the senility to forget the people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do, and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Always REMEMBER this:

You don't stop laughing because you grow old, You grow old because you stop laughing...

ALMONTE

Our Club welcomed two new members as the new year began, and added another at our last meeting. Ourawards ceremony for the 2011/12 year was held Sept 24 and our new executive was inducted following a potluckdinner. Besides the number of catering and hall rentals which support our ability to donate, the club donates theuse of the hall to community needs such as MTO, to allow our elderly Almonte residents opportunity to take theirdriver tests right in town; Parkside Residence Halloween Dance with help from our Juniors who decorate anddance up a storm. The Health unit holds a flu clinic as well in our Hall; and we host a number of blood donorclinics.

As service to our community we BBQ at one of the local schools to help with two of their fundraisers. Our medicalloan cupboard is kept in tip top shape by one of our members and equipment keeps coming and going. W edonated our hall to the ‘Hay East’ project which was organized to raise funds for local area farmers to paytransport for hay from western Canada.

Almonte has been holding its 12 Days of Christmas Claxton Fruit Cakes sales and should soon be out of the 1008lbs of Christmas cake it ordered again this year. W e ran a successful Christmas Craft Sale complete with Raffletable and Canteen. Also we raised funds to support Camp Quality through the efforts of a team of superb piemakers at Thanksgiving and early November for Christmas. W e plan to serve up hot chocolate at the annual Lightup the Night festivities and are excited about the first ever evening Santa Claus parade in our community. Santahas made sure his sleigh is well lit and appreciates the “house” for his elves during the parades in Carleton Place,Pakenham and Almonte. The Boy Scouts and Cubs with help from the Jr. Civitans will be passing out candy inAlmonte. W e always enjoy providing a Christmas dinner for the local group homes complete with Santa gifts andwelcome our Junior Civitans as they assist in the passing out of food. The seniors homes in Almonte are treated toa party and a visit from Santa who also greets folk in hospital with some great Christmas Cake!Fiddlers Night continues to provide a great meal followed by some high stepping dancing every month.

W e supported the Perth Civitan effort to finance the W here’s the Love Program, (workshop for highschool students on bullying hosted by Interval House), donated to two food banks, Big Brothers/Sistersbowling fundraiser, the Legion poppy fund, Canadian Cancer W heels of Hope, Champions of Kids(program of UCDSB to help needy kids), the Otesha Project, Victims of Violence, and Interval House.

Our technologically talented members have found a way to automate Hall bookings and share theinformation to each of the chairs responsible for the function. W e have come a long way, baby!

Our Club showed its appreciation of one of our chartered members, Civitan Paul Cooney who wasawarded one of the Queen’s Jubilee awards; as nominated by Mayor and Civitan John Levi. CivitanPaul has been a pillar of our club, giving momentous amounts of time in the background to the Hallthrough bookings, tent rentals, clean up, the Medical Loan Cupboard, set up and the list goes on!! Hisshoes are hard to fill and a kinder, gentler soul one could hardly meet. Civitan gets a great name inAlmonte because of his efforts. Note also that others in our club have received the Queen’s JubileeMedal; Civitan Peter Guthrie and the Late Civitan Jack Toshack.

PERTH

Perth is gearing up for a busy Christmas Season. The Glass Turkey Draw and Claxton Fruitcake Sales areunderway and preparations are starting for the Christmas Craft Sale on Sunday, November 25 th, 2012 at ourhall.

Each year we put on a Senior’s Christmas Party and serve two sittings of a turkey dinner to area seniors. It is freeof charge and Santa always shows up to greet the guests. This year the event is December 2nd and we alwaysget many of our members out to help prepare and serve the dinner.

Other events are two Small Business Christmas Parties and a Breakfast with Santa. These go with the regularbars which seem to peak at this time of year and our weekly bingo.

Junior Civitan seem to be doing well with 14 members this year. They have been a great help with 16 showing upto help bag candy for the Annual Halloween Community Party and 9 attended the party as actors and had a blast. They are now in the process of making Christmas Cards for Seniors. Elections have been held and an installationevent is being planned for early in the new year.
