    Arundel Community Development Services, Inc. is seeking a summer intern to assist in ourplanning division. The successful candidate should be a Masters level student studying UrbanPlanning, preferably with a concentration in housing and community development. The internwill be tasked with creating a comprehensive revitalization needs assessment andrecommendations for strategies to address those needs for the Glen Burnie Area, one of Anne

    Arundel Countys designated neighborhood revitalization areas. The intern will workindependently to research various data sources, including recently released 2010 Census data andexisting County planning documents, and develop a report outlining current demographics, datatrends, and housing and community development needs. The report should include maps, datacharts and a narrative summary of findings. Based on that information, the intern will workwith Planning staff to develop an action plan, which will include strategies and programs toaddress those needs using federal, State, and private housing and community developmentresources.

    While development of the needs assessment will be the primary responsibility of the intern, astime allows, the intern may be asked to assist with other planning tasks as needed and desired by

    the intern. Planning staff will include the intern in a variety of housing and communitydevelopment planning and policy activities to ensure the intern is exposed to a broad range of ouragencys work. For example, the intern may assist in the application for competitive housingand community development funds, accompany and assist staff during CDBG or HOMEmonitoring visits at a wide range of project and program sites, sit in on Regional Fair Housingand Sustainable Communities Initiative meetings and attend regular staff meetings where the dayto day housing program administration decisions occur.

    In addition to being enrolled in a Masters level program at an accredited university, the ideal

    candidate will have the following skills:

    Strong data analysis experience

    Familiarity with GIS mapping software Strong written and oral communication skills Familiarity with housing and community development issues and programs

    The position will be up to 30 paid hours per week for 10 weeks at the rate of $10/hour with anoption to work additional volunteer hours if the intern wants to further their experience.
