Setting Up ACCPAC Advantage SeriesBesides the Messenger Settings, there are a few items you needto configure correctly.

Canonical Phone Numbers

You should always use the canonical telephone number format when specifying telephone numbers in Windows, in FAXserve,or when addressing faxes in e-mails.

The canonical telephone number format is the technically correct

format to use when displaying or entering phone numbers. Itlooks like this:

+<country code> (<area/city code>) <local number>

For example, a canonical number for someone in Canada orUnited States looks like this:

+1 (505) 555-0100

The “+” indicates that the number is in canonical format.

Although people often separate phone number segments withhyphens or periods (for example, 505-555-1212 or 505.555.1212),both of these forms are grammatically incorrect.

The problem is that not all country codes are the same length—and neither are local numbers—so software programs can’t

decode numbers properly unless they know exactly whichsegment each number belongs to.

In general, when a phone number is NOT in canonical format, it

will be dialed as-is.You should update your contact tables to this standardtelephone number format for Messenger Fax to work correctly.
