A. Organized Activities
I. Basic Information
a. Name of Activity: Youth Forum on Personality Development
b. Theme: Creating positive change within yourself through correct thinking
and right actions

II. Objectives:
1. To understand emotions as a means discovering oneself.
2. To promote positive thinking towards eliminating behavior and habits that hinder success.
3. To equip students with a new sense of discipline in confronting lifes challenges.
4. To nourished the character and personality of the students.
5. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).
III. Narrative Report:
The seminar formally begins at around 1:15pm with the Opening Remarks of Mary Ann Caceres as one
of the Executive Heads of the event. An inspirational video of Nick Vujicic was shown to the
participants in order supplement positive ideals to the participants before the introduction of the
Resource Speaker. The Speaker for the seminar is Fr. Jose T. Ballesteros, a former YMCA member from
Sto. Domingo, Albay. He described himself as a humble servant of God and a good father to his family.
He brilliantly discussed his topics even with the use of Manila paper instead slide show presentation.
The speaker explained the key concepts of positive thinking and personality development as being
synonymous to each other. These concepts were discussed by the speaker by sharing his life
experiences as a priest and as a good father to his children. Because of his interesting story, he easily
caught the attention of the participants. The speaker said that he had faced consequences of losing
confidence and self-trust but still managed to survive by means of positive thinking. He presented
himself to be a good role model to the enlightened participants. After his inspirational speech, the
executive heads awarded the Certificate of Commendation to Fr. Jose T. Ballesteros for his invaluable
contribution as the Resource Speaker of the seminar before formally closing the activity with few
Closing Remarks from the Executive Heads.

I. Basic Information
a. Name of Activity: STOP Stressing, START Resting: A Talk on Stress Management

II. Objectives:
1. To educate the students about the negative effects of stress on their health and academic
performance.
2. To provide practical stress management skills that would greatly improve the college life of the
students.
3. To encourage healthy lifestyle to avoid too much stress.
4. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA), particularly about healthy living.
III. Narrative Report:
The health talk on Stress Management which was conducted during the Students Day started at about
9:00am with the Invocation Prayer and the Singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an
Audio Visual Presentation (AVP). It was followed by the Opening Remarks of the Executive Head
Mariella Isabelle Melgar who explained the importance of this activity to the college students. Then,
she proceeded to introduce the first Resource Speaker Rev. Melchor Buenaflor who is currently the
School Administrator of the One Asia Kids Academy in Ligao City. He exceptionally discussed the causes
and effects of stress with emphasis on personal behavior. The speaker pointed out that the manner of
managing stress depends on the type of personality. He distributed questionnaire kits to determine
ones type of personality and discuss each of these personalities with grounding details while providing
informations on how each type can manage stress. The interesting discussion of Rev. Buenaflor was
followed by an open forum in which he exceptionally answered the questions raised by the
participants. After that, he was awarded Certificate of Commendation by the organizers for his
invaluable contribution as a resource speaker. Then, the morning session of the activity was closed for
the lunch break to be reopened at about 1:30pm for the afternoon session.

II. Objectives:
1. To inculcate knowledge on the current situation of the environment in order for students to
accurately identify environmental issues and solutions.
2. To provide knowledge on disaster risk reduction management among the youth.
3. To prepare the youth for disasters and calamities for a more resilient community.
4. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).
III. Narrative Report:
The YES on DRRM was spearheaded by the BU College Y Club (BU CYC) in partnership with CBEM NSRC,
CBEM NSTP and BU JIM. After the registration, the activity formally started at about 9:00am with the
Invocation Prayer and the Singing of the Philippine National Anthem thru an AVP. It was followed by
the Opening Remarks of Mary Grace Martinez and the introduction of the first Resource Speaker in the
person of Mr. Anthony Lorcha, the Communication Coordinator at Children International. He mainly
talked about the environmental issues and problems in the society that greatly affect the climate.
According to him, the chlorofluorocarbons that are produced by factories increase the holes in the
ozone layer, which causes the global warming. This global warming rapidly changes the earths
condition, specifically the weather throughout the world. The second speaker of the seminar was Mr.
Emanuel Prea, a youth environmentalist who had just recently graduated at Bicol University. He gives
an inspirational message to the participants and encourages them to be part of BAYER in promoting a
clean and green environment for the future generation of Youth. The morning session of the activity
closed at about 11:30pm for the lunch break.

In the afternoon session, the session resumed at about 2:00pm with the arrival of PO3 Allan Abainza
the substitute for Dr. Cedric Daep whom will be the lecturer regarding the overview of Disaster Risk
Reduction Management. He gives a great discussion about the topic by elaborating some of the things
to do in preparing for typhoon in order to safeguard the Albayanos. After his discussion, the Executive
Heads introduced the last Resource Speaker in the person of Ms. Ianne Christine Tin Aquino, General
Secretary of the YMCA of Albay. She brilliantly discussed the role of the YMCA on Disaster Risk
Reduction Management in the province of Albay. After her speech, an open forum was held before
formally ending the activity with the Closing Remarks from Mary Grace Martinez as the Executive
Head. Through the seminar, the students were inspired and become aware of their participation in
taking care of their environment as a way of safeguarding themselves against disasters and calamities.

III. Narrative Report:
The Youth Employability Training was conducted by the BU College Y Club (BU CYC) in coordination
with the CBEM Seniors Club in order to orient the college students of the basic rights of workers in
connection to its importance to developing ones career. The activity formally started at about 9:00pm
with the Invocation Prayer and Singing of the Philippine National Anthem through an Audio Visual
Presentation. Ronald Onguda, BU CYC President, gave a short opening remark before the introduction
of Mrs. Ma. Ella E. Verano as the Resource Speaker from the Department of Labor and Employment
(DOLE). She brilliantly discussed the employment rights as well as the duties and functions of DOLE.
Her discussions are key ingredients for Students in order for them to confidently face a new life
outside the University and inside the competitive world of employability. After her discussion, Mrs.
Verano was awarded by the BU CYC President with the Certificate of Commendation for her valuable
contribution to the activity. The activity ended with the Students more equipped with knowledge and
information, thus more ready to graduate and pursue their careers. The Lady of Ceremonies also
invited the participants to attend the next activity Youth Forum on Personality Development which is
a requisite activity of the employability training.

C. Participation and Involvement in Local, Regional, National and International Events

1. To establish and institutionalize an intensive Youth Leadership Training Program.
2. To tap outstanding college students and leaders to take leadership roles in the YMCA and their
communities.
3. To help local YMCAs train and prepare their young people to become better persons/good
citizens equipped with the values, skills and knowledge to effectively respond to the many
problems and issues of the world today.
4. To help local YMCAs develop their young people and create a pool of human resources to fill the
need for qualified staff/volunteers in many local YMCAs now wanting for effective leaders.
III. Narrative Report:
The YMCA of the Philippines had organized the annual YMCA - Rizal Youth Leadership Training Institute
(RYLTI) for the year 2014 with the theme WE DRIVE CHANGE: Empowering Young People. In
response to their invitation, the BU College Y Club sent four officers in the persons of Eric Lunas,
Abegail Alondra, Mary Grace Martinez, and January Merilles to represent the organization in the said
national event. It was also attended by other students from various colleges and universities in the
Philippines. Throughout the event, the BU CYC participants enjoyed the activities while learning holistic
values and interesting informations about the Young Mens Christian Association. Their leadership
skills are put into test through developing competitive teamwork, community exposure, and the
formulation of an action plan. The participants/scholars were also able to build new friendships for
themselves and linkages for the organization. They described the whole training event as
unforgettable experience which ended with all them equipped with the knowledge and values that a
true student leader must have. Moreover, one of the BU CYC participants Mary Grace Martinez has
been honored as Most Outstanding Scholar of the 2014 Rizal Youth Leadership Training Institute.

II. Objectives:
1. To raise awareness on weather conditions, climate change and natural phenomenon as a way to
mitigate calamities and disasters.
2. To train local YMCAs in disaster risk reduction management as well as to build channels and
connections among them in response to local disasters.
3. To promote climate change adaptation by means of providing technical skills and importantknowledge, while making the province of Albay as a role model for disaster risk reduction
management.
III. Narrative Report:
The national event was attended by the YMCAs across the Philippines from northern Luzon to
Mindanao along with the Y Care International, and the Asia Pacific Alliance of YMCAs. This DRRM
workshop is about building the capacity of the YMCA in the Philippines. They have been working in the
Visayas a lot since Yolanda and its important that all local YMCAs know about effective Disaster Risk
Reduction Management (DRRM). Two BU CYC Officers, namely Ronald Onguda and Mary Grace
Martinez, volunteered as facilitators for the 3-day national event. The event comprises of important
discussions about DRRM and practical workshops that cater worthwhile experience to all the
participants.

1. To introduce the organization to the new students of the college.
2. To interact and connect with the new students, with the other College Based Organizations

3. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).
III. Narrative Report:
The event started as early as 7:00am with all the College Based Organizations (CBOs) putting up their
own booths with a "barrio fiesta" theme. CAL Y as the college unit of the BU College Y Club (BU CYC)
joined the said activity. This org fair is indeed one of the most awaited activities of the College Student
Council of BU College of Arts and Letters (CAL CSC) because this is a way for CBOs to build connections
to the students of the college, particulary the freshies. The BU CYC along with CAL Y designed a booth
that adapted the provided theme. The booth facilitators also brought the items made up of indigenous
materials proudly made by the people being sponsored by the YMCA of Albay. The organization also
provided a trivia game for the students wherein he/she may pick up a question which, if answered
correctly, may claim a prize. The CAL Y also have a mystery box as part of the games offered during the
organizational fair. The fair is programmed as a whole day activity which ended up so well because of
the efforts exerted by the Officers of CAL Y and by the enthusiasm of the new members of the
organization in the college.

1. To introduce the organization to the new students of the college.
2. To interact and connect with the new students, with the other University Based Organizations
(UBOs), and with the University Student Council (USC).
3. To orient the students about the Bicol University College Y Club (BU CYC) as well as the principles
of the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA).
III. Narrative Report:
The Bicol University - College Y Club (BU CYC) is with the BU USC, the CSCs and other organizations in
celebrating the Freshmen Welcome Party with the theme: #FreshmenBucketList: Filling the Pails of
Character, Leadership, Service, and Scholarship. The BU CYC set up a booth that represents the nature
and purpose of the organization as a club devoted for youth empowerment and community
development. The set-up was met with several difficulties and challenges, such as the unpredictable
weather. Yet, the officers were able to successfully establish the BU CYC Booth at about noon, just in
time for the Organizational Fests. The booth contained the vision, mission and objectives of the
organization. It also showcased a Freedom Wall and various mind games that serve as the Bucket List
Challenge. Numerous students flock to the BU CYC Booth to enjoy the Mind Games and sign up to
become a new member of the religious socio-civic organization. The YMCA Mascot also roomed
around the Commencement grounds to sway students to go to the BU CYC Booth. The officers and
active members joyfully give flyers to the students while orienting them about the organization and
the Young Mens Christian Association (YMCA) as well as its upcoming activities. The event ended well
and enjoyably for the members and officers of the BU College Y Club.
