Can you tell I’m not invested in the Super Bowl? I’ll probably have it on as“background noise” later when I’m finishing up some homework… and really soI can watch the commercials.
It’s been GORGEOUS all weekend here in New York… I think that plus all thesuper bowl festivities has made New York a happier place this weekend. I tookfull advantage of the weather this morning by going for a run for the first time inforever. The second my feet hit the Westside Highway path I couldn’t help butsmile because it felt so good to be running outside.

It was one of my slower runs, but it felt a lot better than I anticipated. I ended uprunning almost 6 miles and felt pretty great afterwards. As of today I’m officially12 weeks out to the Nike Women’s Half Marathon which means I shouldprobably start running more than once a month. It’s been impossible for me tomuster up some motivation and bundle up when the weather has been belowfreezing most of the time. To those of you that do it I have such respect for you,I, however, was not meant to live in a cold climate.
I’m not too too concerned about training overall since I have a more solidrunning foundation this time around compared to last summer when 5 mileswas my idea of a “long run”, but I’m worried about getting in those training runswhile it’s still winter. My initial plan was to “get serious” this week since it’s 12weeks out, turns out I have a lot of classes I need to use up on my Classtivitymembership by February 18th thanks to vacation and wisdom teeth. For nowI’m hoping to get in 1 solid run a week in the 5-7 mile range and keep up myusual workout schedule.
I can’t not mention the AMAZING class I took yesterday at CYC with thecreator himself, Keoni Hudoba.

The guy seriously oozes charisma and energy. From the moment the classstarted there was not a dull moment in his class and he took advantage ofevery moment where he could throw in theatrics. There was one part where hemade us sprint for about 20 seconds, hit the break, add resistance, and thensprint again 8 times in a row. During this time he had the lights completely offand walked around the room banging out a beat on the drum. Something about

having the lights off seriously motivated me to get my legs moving and not givea crap about how I looked and how much effort it took. CYC’s style might notbe for everyone, but it fits my own belief that at the end of the day fitnessshould be fun and you should find class that motivate you. That was definitelythe case for me in Keoni’s class! Amazingness.

WHAAAT is going on with Revolve? I've been dying to discuss but none of my NYC friends know jack shit about
the fitness community... or have ever stepped foot in a cycling studio for that matter #artsyfriends
i'm so curious about revolve too! especially the loss of kristin... seems like she's going back to equinox with high
gear?

love you all but find it hysterical that this is Gossip. maybe its that I dislike gossip at all but for 30 years I have
watched all this and and more and none of it is very interesting- just part of the typical life of a fitness instructor..
I guess if I apply this as gossip regarding my career woooooo I have a reality tv show then... too funny!!! good

Kristen is the biggest fraud and biggest fake in the industry. About as fake as her Twitter followers. If you need to
buy FAKE FOLLOWERS, you can just tell something wrong with you.
Studio is better off without her fake followers and shit anyway. Jason Tran is awesome, but CP (Christanne and
Kira Stokes are the best in the business.) Dyan was great, but I'm sure the opportunity is great for her at Swerve.
KIRA should just leave Revolve and open up her own gym called STOKED FITNESS.
would shit on all of these studios. barrys, fhitting room, who needs that shit when you could just go to Stoked
Flywheel opens cycling and barre studios in Scarsdale; they also open Flybarre on the UES.
It seems that Equinox is getting more rigid with instructor non-competes (RYB = Switzerland. Discuss
below.) Their marketing team has also introduced a new hashtag, #equinoxmademedoit.
Reebok is getting more active at their NYC hub, and have been hosting a number of classes including yoga
in conjunction with Exhale Spa.

My first spin class
If you follow me on Twitter, you know already what this post is going to be all about. This morning I had
the opportunity to go to my first spin class at Cyc Fitness.
I know, I’m just as shocked as you that I lived in NYC for 3+ years and never went to a spin class (especially
since there was a studio underneath our apartment…lol).

I admit, I was a little bit nervous because I heard that spin classes can be intense… yeah, didn’t know what to
expect. Anyways, I ended up getting there about 5 minutes early and when I was signing in, the girl asked me
if I wanted a front-row bike. Ummm NO… I must have given her a deer-in-headlights look because she
quickly offered me one closer to the back.
I walked into the dark-ish room and found that the class was half full. I got on my bike and there must have
been a 7′ man riding it before me. Luckily, the guy next to me was super nice and helped me figure out how
to lower the seat. Oh, and how to unclip my spin shoes in order to get off the bike to lower the seat. #newbie
The class started and it was intense. I loved it! Cyc Fitness is known for making it into a full-body workout and
even incorporates some weights and arm movements.
It was about 45 minutes long, filled with EDM music and a great sweat session. I give a million thanks to that
guy next to me because I don’t think I would have made it through it without him. It was a little stressful to be
a newbie and not really know what was going on… but sometimes you have to go outside of your comfort
zone to try something new.
If you are in Austin, Madison, WI or New York, definitely give their class a try. It is a lot of fun and a great
way to start a Saturday morning.
And now because I am such an expert, some of my own personal tips for trying out your own spin class:
Definitely get there earlier than five minutes before the class… it will give you time to figure out where the
lockers are, how to adjust your bike, etc.
Don’t be scared to admit that you are a newbie… they want to make sure you are having a great
experience and by admitting you don’t know what in the world is going on, it will make it better for
everyone.
Bring your water bottle and put it ON the bike. I left mine on the floor so the only way I could get it is if I

unclipped my shoes, which took me about six years to do and would have resulted in me missing a good
chunk of the workout. Instead I told myself I was doing a no hydration workout to make myself stronger.
You don’t always have to do the resistance that the instructor says. I knew that since this was my first
class, if I went hard the first 15 minutes, I wasn’t going to make it through the last 30. I fiddled with this a
lot throughout to make sure it was challenging, but not so challenging that I wasn’t able to finish the
workout.
Have an open mind. I admit, I was frustrated when I first showed up because I really had no idea what
was going on. Take a deep breath and keep your mind open. It wasn’t easy when you tried [insert favorite
activity] for the first time, so it makes sense to have a few hiccups along the way.
Would I go back? Definitely. Once my apartment’s fitness center opens, they are going to have regular spin
classes and I’m excited to integrate this more into my workout routine. Great way to strength train and keep
fitness interesting!

So, Kyle happens to be kind of a star. After I did some stalking AKA reading his Cyc bio plus some good old
googling, I learned that he was in the cast of a reality TV series called "Summer Camp." The Hollywood
Reporter wrote that Kyle was "over-the-top, charismatic, super funny and comes from a long line of athletes."
Check, check, check and check. I am happy to say that I saw a lot of this in Kyle's Cyc class.

You know, it's super fun digging around and finding interesting stuff about of people's lives. For example, I
stumbled upon this little gem. No words except can I get a live performance of this in class??!? Jk kinda.
Kyle, you knew we would find this! Alright, so he's fun. Let's get to the class.
The Good stuff
I'm not going into detail about the structure of the class. It was a standard CYC class with hills, quick jogs and
four songs dedicated to arms. There were some really great things about Kyle.
Fun personality: He went above and beyond to be really friendly. I felt like he wanted to be besties with
people. I loved this about him. And it was essential for a morning class when you want to just go back to
bed.
Engaging: During class, he walked around the room complimenting people and encouraging them.
Tough: I'm finding these CYC classes to be rather tough. Kyle's quick jogs were really hard to keep pace
with.

The Eh stuff
There were a few things that I wasn't a huge fan of.
1. Arms Demos: So I'm not entirely sure if this is what all of the instructors do there but for about 85% of
the arms songs, Kyle did not have the weights in his hands. He was demoing most of the moves without
weights. This bothered me because I don't think that the movement that he can do perfectly without the
weights is entirely demonstrative of the movement with the weight. For instance, I don't think you will be
able to do a perfect "backstroke" with a weight in your hand. Also I want to know the instructor is in the
fight with me. I want to see that it's hard for you too, we're only human. It's not easy holding weights for
four songs.
2. Music: I wasn't in love with the music selection. There wasn't anything particularly bad about it but I
wasn't feeling entirely inspired.
Conclusion
That thing about the arms did bother me, but I don't feel that it's fair to necessarily penalize Kyle for this
since it's something that all the Cyc instructors do. I really thought this class was a solid 3.5. This instructor is
just so shiny and bright that it's hard to not like him!

You have an army of fitness instructors in your back yard who specialize in days like Valentine's day and will
turn that single-ass frown upside down. Check out this list of studios doing cute shtuff on Friday. AKA get off
your pouty ass and get SWEATY, ya heard?
1. ((305)) Fitness
Date and time: February 14th, 6:00PM and 7:00PM ($35)
Instructor: Brittney Mooney
Deets: 305 Fitness is asking women to celebrate THEMSELVES, step outside of their comfort zone, put down the
chocolate, and spend the evening dancing their a$ses off and finding their inner ‘sexy'. To make the evening even
more special, there will be a Valentine’s Lounge - providing guests with pampering experiences such as blowouts by
Glam&Go, Rouge’s Lash Bar, healthy cocktails, Mio massages, and more. Valentine’s Day shouldn’t be a day for
women to isolate themselves. ((305)) is encouraging all women to take pride in themselves on this day and
celebrate by working out together. Women are encouraged to embrace the evening by doing something for
themselves and what better way to do that than a giant calorie burning night out with your friends? Welcome to the
modern day Lonely Hearts Club.

Possible). This is a SPEED DATING WOD - genius! First, you'll have to choose your division: "Jerk & Snatch,
Jerk & Jerk or Snatch & Snatch." WODs go from 12-2PM and brunch follows. Be prepared to WOD at
multiple stations with a partner in your division. This event is capped at 100 athletes. First come, first

5. Swerve Fitness

have a "kissing photo booth" all week! ($25)
9. Flywheel Sports
Deets: DJ CASSIDY, the go-to deejay for events like Jay Z and Beyonce’s wedding and President Obama’s
inaugurations, will host a LIVE DJ RIDE at Flywheel TriBeCa as he prepares to launch his first single from his debut
album, PARADISE ROYALE. One lucky winner will receive a copy of the playlist and an iTunes gift card to download
all songs. ($32)

Sunday 5pm I will be at SoulCycle Brooklyn, in RYB favorite Noa Shaw's love stinks Valentine's Day ride. (Or, as
it's listed on the schedule, Broken Hearts Rockstar ride.)
Love the Valentine's day classes!!! PEDAL NYC is in fact having a special Valentine's Day class as well!
PEDAL NYC loves to spread the love, so Friday at 6:30pm PEDAL will be hosting a Valentine's Day 30/30 with
resident "Hottie Toddys" Erin B. & Lauren L. Join them for a singles sweat fest with cocktails to follow! Don't
worry if you're not single, you're welcome for a sweat before they send you off to your hot date!

10. Lyons Den Power Yoga

Deets: Bring a "sweatmate" to work out with you! Your sweatmate can be your swolemate (partner),
friend, coworker, parent, son, daughter, sibling, etc. ANYONE can be your sweatmate as long as they are
willing to work by your side in this action packed partner assisted Trooper Camp format. If you want to be
paired with a stranger for the fun of it, we will find you a Sweatmate for the day, based on a 3 question
survey. ($20 per couple)

On Friday, February 14, Flywheel Sports will host a ride featuring a live DJ at their brand-newTriBeCa studio -- and Flywheel snagged none other than the A-list-worthy DJ Cassidy. Incelebration of his new single, "Calling All Hearts," which features Jessie J (our unofficial fitgoddess) and Robin Thicke, Cassidy will deejay alongside a master instructor for a 45-minute ride.
Not near TriBeCa? (Don't worry, nothing really is.) Every single Flywheel across the country willalso be playing Cassidy's curated list during class.
SOULCYCLE: THE SOULMATE KISS CAM
If you've ever been to SoulCycle, you know it's all about the experience of "being together" -- lowlights, riding in unison, positive mantras -- so it's no surprise the cheery yellow cycling studio is allabout Valentine's Day. On February 14, all SOUL locations are celebrating SOULmates with a fun(albeit sweat-soaked) SOUL kiss cam. Before and after shots will determine just how hard youwerked it.
And if you're single, don't stress: The folks at SOUL have reported many relationships blossomingbetween bike mates and even an in-class marriage proposal. Awww.
CYC: THE "CRUSH RIDE"
Probably because Cyc is geared toward the younger, college-aged crowd, this Spin studio is allabout making matches, not celebrating the already betrothed. On February 13 (not V-Day!), Cyc isgoing to play cupid by hosting a "Crush Ride." How it works: Buy two bikes; email Cyc with yourcrush's name and email address and then leave the rest up to Cyc. They'll reserve the bikes and thensend the "couple" an invitation to ride together.
And just in case you thought Cyc couldn't get any cuter, the class will also feature a special SweatyKissing Booth. Make sure any makeup you wear to impress that crush is waterproof.
