INTRODUCTION

The University of St Andrews is committed to sustainable food policy and practice across all of our catering services and retail outlets over campus.

We are committed to providing healthy, sustainable and affordable food to the university community. We also aim to support staff and student-led projects and research to enhance food sustainability at the university.

The nature of our hospitality is that all our food and drink must be fully packaged to ensure it is kept safe from contamination. However, we do everything possible to ensure that we minimise the environmental impact. For example, all our disposable cups, napkins, cutlery and boxes are compostable, and we re-use our service platters. We continually strive to ensure we are making the most of local suppliers. We are committed to buying and using fresh, seasonal produce.

All of our tea and coffee products are Fairtrade, supporting farmers and workers in the developing world through better prices, decent working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade.

As part of our commitment to reduce and re-use food and beverage products, we have chosen to bottle our own water on-site. Our BRITA / Vivreau water bottling system is helping save the environment. We will provide the best quality water from the most local source, eliminating the need for costly and polluting transportation and packaging. The installation of our table water bottling system with re-usable glass bottles for pure chilled still and sparkling drinking water, will have an immediate and dramatic impact on our carbon footprint.

All delivered hospitality food is delivered by one of our dedicated and professional team members.

Booking information

Internal delivered catering bookings can be made online for a maximum of 50 people. To book for 50 people or more please contact Events Operations directly by emailing [email protected].

Standard delivery times are between 08:00 - 17:00 Monday - Friday, for orders out with these times please contact Events Operations on the above.

Delivery on weekdays 08:00 - 17:00

Cancellation charges

Special dietary requirements

Our chefs will endeavour to cater for all special dietary requirements and / or allergies that are highlighted during booking.

Last minute bookings and amendments

Events Operations will make every effort to accommodate last minute bookings but cannot make any guarantees – please contact us to discuss your request.

Service

Should you require a member of staff to serve your booking, please contact Events Operations. Service will be charged at £15 per hour per member of staff for a minimum of 4 hours.

Delivery

It is the responsibility of the customer making the booking to check that the intended delivery location has been booked and confirmed via the appropriate channels and is one in which catering is permitted. Please ensure tables are available for the delivery.

If Events Operations deems the location requested as unsuitable for a delivery, someone will contact you and request that you book an alternative location where the delivery can be made. Where possible it is advisable to book a separate room for lunch deliveries to minimise disruption to your event.

If Events Operations are unable to gain access to the delivery location the order will be either left outside the room or returned at the discretion of the Events Operations team.

Events Operations will set out the catering as best they can on the tables provided, otherwise this will be left the customer to unpack.

Wherever possible Events Operations will endeavor to deliver your order 15 minutes prior to your requested time; please therefore allow for early deliveries when making your room booking.

Crockery and utensils will be delivered for the numbers booked. If required Events Operations will provide disposable crockery and cutlery for specific bookings, this decision will remain at the discretion of the Events Operations team and the customer will be informed this decision.

All catering equipment delivered with your booking remains the property of the University, any damage to items or the non-return of items after the booking will be charged at full replacement cost. This includes the return of all glass reusable water bottles.

Storage

When your food has been delivered, please store it carefully away from direct sunlight or heat sources. It is strongly recommended your food is kept covered until required and is consumed within 90 minutes of delivery as per the University Food Policy.

Take away food scheme

In an endeavor to eliminate food waste, the Events Operations team will provide “compostable take-away boxes” for certain events. The University of St Andrews assumes no liability for food removed from any event.

Collection

Please ensure that all items are packed up and ready for collection at the end of your event. Events Operations will aim to collect all the equipment on the same day or by 10am the following day with the exception of weekends.

It is not the responsibility of the catering team to pack away delivered items. This service is only included if staffing has been booked. If the person who placed the order is not present at the event, please ensure that somebody from the attending group is aware that all items need to be packed up.

Alcohol

To ensure compliance with Licensing Regulations, if your booking includes alcoholic beverages please contact catering services to arrange this.

Our drinks receptions packages offer both alcoholic and non-alcoholic options for your guests and include the provision of glassware and staffing for your event.

We are unable to offer alcohol on a sale and return basis.

For events at licensed premises throughout the university, alcohol must be provided by Events Operations.

Events Operations will not provide alcoholic beverages if license conditions are not met.

General

Whilst every effort will be made to provide the exact menu ordered Events Operations reserves the right to substitute any product with a suitable alternative.

All events taking place after 17:00 and during weekends must provide a contact telephone number of the person on-site during the event.
