Importance of Accessories ~ Take the Accessory Point Test
Accessories are great wardrobe extenders. By adding a bold and colorful scarf, a great leather belt with a bold buckle, or a great piece of jewellery, you will achieve a new look wearing the same clothing worn just days ago. Spending your hard-earned money on accessories is a wise investment because accessories last years longer than most clothing and are generally not affected by weight and size variations. Remember that good pieces in classic designs are timeless and are always in style and so worth the money!
Take the following “Accessory Point Test” for the fun of it, assessing the outfit you are wearing. Give yourself one point for each of the details outlined below. Add an extra point for any item that is especially bold or striking; for instance, add 1 point for a ruffle, bow or other detail that is obviously striking. By taking this fun test, you will discover how to create an interesting but not overdone look. Note: The woman depicted below is over-accessorized.
____ Each piece of clothing
____ Each decorative detail: trim, buttons, exposed zippers
____ Each hair accessory
____ Each patterned/textured fabric
____ Each piece of jewellery: watch, chain, Earrings, rings, bracelets
____ Colored nail polish
____ Colored, textured or patterned hose
____ Handbag
____ Briefcase or other bag
____ Belt (add points for bold buckle, pattern)
____ Scarf
____ Eyeglasses (add point for pattern)
____ Stockings/socks (each detail add 1 point)
____ Shoes (each detail add 1 point)
____ Each accent color add 1 point Total Points: ____
If your total falls below eight, you probably need to add an accessory or two to avoid looking bland. If your score exceeds 14, you are over-accessorized. Remove an item or two to create an interesting but not overdone look.
