State and Federal Law

• State law requires an annual count of limited English proficient pupils and an assessment of their language proficiency.

New Test Vendor

•Data Recognition Corporation (DRC) will serve as the operational test vendor for ACCESS for ELLs 2.0, both online and paper.•DRC has extensive online testing experience and has provided excellent customer support during the ACCESS for ELLs 2.0 Field Test•DRC was also awarded the contract for Wisconsin Forward (3-8 ELA & Math, 4/8/10 Science & Social Studies)

Response Capture

• Listening and Reading: student responses will be captured digitally and scored by the online test engine

• Speaking: student responses will be recorded (captured digitally) and automatically sent to DRC for scoring by trained raters

• Writing: typed student responses will be recorded (captured digitally) and automatically sent to DRC for scoring by trained raters; handwritten responses will also be returned to DRC for scoring

Administration Considerations• Order of Administration: Students’

performance on the Listening and Reading tests will determine their placement for Writing and Speaking.

• Listening and Reading: First Listening, then Reading. They may be administered together or separately.

• Writing and Speaking: can be administered in either order, after the Listening and Reading tests.

Kindergarten Test Reminders • The test administrator should sit at a right angle to

the student rather than across or next to the student. The student should sit on the test administrator's right side.

• Test administrator should review the Script prior to testing

• Pencils are required of the student and administrator

• Do not repeat items in listening section; no CDs for K test

• Look for EXPECT boxes in Speaking section

• Score Writing section with Rubric on pages 26-27 in Kindergarten Test Administration Manual

Test Scheduling • The same Domains (Listening, Reading, etc.) should be

scheduled together

• Students from different clusters and Tiers may be in the same session

• Exceptions:• Kindergarten Test is individually administered• Speaking Tier Pre-A should be given 1 on 1• Writing: Gr 1 Tier A, Gr. 2-3 Tier A, Grade 1 Tier B/C, Gr.

2-3, Tier B/C should be separate

• Online Speaking Testing Groups should be groups of 3-6 • Other online testing groups can be 20-25

Testing Schedules• General testing schedule is due to the Language

Acquisition Program Office no later than November 13

• Specific testing schedule by ELL student is due no later than November 25. Forward electronic copy to Sarah Shanebrook-Smith, Coordinator of Language Acquisition Programs.

• Testing schedules should be a collaborative effort between LAP Staff and building ACCESS contact to ensure a more positive testing experience

• May be helpful to distribute schedules to classroom teachers and/or office staff

• If you notice a student omitted from this list, please complete an Infinite Campus Update Form and forward to Angelina Garcia in the Office of Language Acquisition Programs

• Send Lorien Thomas an email regarding any new ELL student so that student can be coded appropriately in DPI’s ISES system

ACCESS Test Database

• If you have a student that needs an Alternate ACCESS test make sure the Cluster indicates “Alt”. If it does not, email Renee Blise to order an Alternate ACCESS test.

• Check the far right Column “Notes”. Check for Lang? This means there is no non-English language coded for this student. Let Lorien Thomas know what the accurate non-English language should be.
