The Multi-Technology Mix

• New government elected in September 2013

• Previous model called for 93% FTTP

• New Minister directs NBN to change course

• MTM to utilise existing network assets

• Talks on with Telstra/Optus for FTTN/HFC

• Plan is to deliver ‘faster and more affordably’

• FTTP 24%, FTTN 42%, HFC 28%

• Fixed-Wireless (TD-LTE) + Satellite 6%.

The Road Ahead: FTTP

• FTTP network passes 550,00 premises

• NBN Co has 210,000 active FTTP subs

• Rollout faced several key challenges

• Unusable LICs have been big issue

• Working on FTTP efficiencies

• Improving contractor management

• Have to stay within funding footprint.

The Road Ahead: Fixed-Wireless

• 220 FW sites now operational

• 460 FW sites now in pipeline

• 23,000 FW subscribers now active

• Top speed offered 25Mbps/5Mbps

The Road Ahead: Satellite

• Services currently provided by ISS

• LSS will begin with NBN Co -1A

• Launch due 1H15 by Arianespace

• Payload performance testing complete

• NBN Co -1B planned launch in 2H15

• 9 Satellite Ground Stations complete.

The Road Ahead: FTTB & FTTN

• FTTB trials held in Victoria in March

• Trial peak speeds of 100Mbps/45Mbps

• FTTB speeds up MDU rollout

• Commercial FTTB services planned 1Q15

• FTTN pilot held in NSW

• FTTN/VDSL achieved peak 100Mbps/30Mbps

• Moving to 1000-Node trial with Telstra

• Commercial FTTN launch in 2H15.

• Telstra & Optus negotiations continue

• Scope and timelines being locked down

• Our first RFP for CMTS has been released

• Winning vendor announced in November

• RFP for outside plant & equipment launched

The Road Ahead: Technology roadmap promising

• European ops deploying VDSL Vectoring

• ITU close to standardizing G.Fast – we are

reviewing this internally for FTTdP

• Ops moving towards hybrid-broadband

• US MSO’s aggressive on DOCSIS 3.1 launch

• Era of ‘Gigabit Cable’ is looming ahead

• NBN has gigabit stories via FTTP/HFC/FTTN.
