ProgramOverviewACFORisaninnovative3-yearacceleratedmedicalschoolcurriculumthatculminatesintheM.D.degreeandleadstoapositionintheOrthopedicsResidencyprogramatMUSC.Forappropriatelyselectedstudents,thistrackprovides

1. Reducedmedicalstudentdebt2. Reducedtimetocompleteoverall

medicaltraining3. Reducedburdenofinterviewand

applicationprocessforOrthopedicresidency

ACFORstudentscompletetwoyearsofbasicsciencecoursework,allrequiredthirdyearclerkships,and25weeksofadditionalcoursework.Interestedstudentsapplytoentertheacceleratedtrackinthefalloftheir2nd year.ThosewhoattainprogressmilestonesmaytheninterviewfortheOrthopedicresidencyspotmidwaythroughthirdyear.Upto2studentsareselected.Thetraditional4-yearcurriculumatMUSCincludes150weeksofinstructioncomparedto134weeksforACFOR.

• Selectioncommitteedetermineswhichstudentsareeligibletoenterthetrack.

• ACFOR- eligiblestudentsfollowaspecifiedYear3scheduletoensurespecificclerkshipsbeforemid-yearandanorthopedicselectiveinthemonthprecedingthefinalinterview.

• Atthemidpointofyear3,ACFOR-eligiblestudentswhoremaininterestedand demonstratecompetencyareinvitedtosubmitupdatedapplicationmaterialsandscheduledforaninterviewwiththeDept ofOrthopedics.

• Followingthefinalinterview,upto2studentsareselectedtoentertheACFORprogram.
