9 Foundation Units

Anatomy and Physiology This course is a core unit for all courses, available in two home study options, one as a paper copy and the other as a computer based course. Successful students will be awarded the Academy Distance Learning Certificate in Anatomy and Physiology, which is recognised by the IAM, FHT and IFPA. These courses are structured into 13 lessons, divided into three modules. Anatomy and Physiology – 7 Day (Rolling Course) - In-House The course is structured into 13 lessons and divided into three modules presented as a rolling programme, enabling the student to start at any point. In-house classes are interactive with the tutor using practical work as much as possible to add vigour and life to an otherwise interesting, yet perplexing, subject matter. The in-house Academy certificate course is assessed by completion of assignments and essays. Distance Learning Anatomy and Physiology (Not FHT Accredited) The correspondence modules are a flexible approach to learning and require self–discipline and a high degree of dedication. The student should expect to complete a minimum of 100 hours of study. The Academy offers tutor support via email or telephone to give advice at any time during the course. The distance course is assessed by continuous assessment through essay and multiple-choice questions.

E-Learning (Computer based) Anatomy and Physiology This course is available on-line with tutorials, notes which can be downloaded and self-assessments for the student to complete. This course is ideal for students wishing to study at their own pace and fit around other commitments. A personal tutor, who is only an email or phone call away, will be available for you to answer any of your questions and help you. This course is assessed by a final computer based exam, based on the self-assessments used to help aid the students learning.

Anatomy and Physiology Refresher and Student Support days (In-house) These are designed for therapists who wish to refresh their anatomy and physiology as well as students who are learning through either of our home study courses. The days will be themed around different systems of the body and are a great way to refresh your knowledge, or clarify a particular area. The theme of the day will include student requests so that all study needs may be met.

Anatomy and Physiology Exemptions: If a qualification has already been achieved in this area then exemptions may be considered.

Clinical Aromatherapy

1. Associate Diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy

Penny Price Aromatherapy prides itself on its high standards of aromatherapy teaching. Where possible we always recommended that students learn their aromatherapy skills at our training academy. However we also understand that this is not a valid option for everyone, and so we now offer various ways to study with us to receive a Penny Price Clinical Diploma in Aromatherapy.

The core of all our aromatherapy diploma course modules is based on the same in-depth aromatherapy theory, aimed at the complete beginner to be steadily built upon until a high level of understanding is achieved. There are four aromatherapy based modules, plus a fifth module consisting of business studies, first aid and the exam. The student will need to complete each module and the required assessments successfully before proceeding to the next module. Advice is offered at every stage of the course through contact with a personal tutor. Blended Learning

It is possible for a student to combine distance learning with in-house modules to comply with some accrediting body’s requirements or simply to vary the learning environments. A bridging course may be necessary to integrate the two programmes. Please ask for details.

There are many different types of massage movements but not all of them are suitable to an aromatherapy massage. This practical based course teaches, in stages, a full body sequence to include various Swedish massage techniques which will enable deeper, and more specific, work on their clients. These movements include kneading, cupping, hacking and knuckling, movements designed to help break down areas of cellulite, congestion and tension as well as improve the circulation to the area and stimulates the lymphatic system. The effects of frictions and their ability to release tension, increase circulation and aid the elimination of waste products is also taught. Practical elements also include a shoulder massage with client sitting on a chair and stretches to recommend for muscle tension

Remedial Massage for Aromatherapists – 3 days This three day course is aimed at the experienced therapist who wishes to add remedial massage techniques to their ‘toolbox’. It is a CPD qualification and the therapist must hold a Swedish Body Massage (or Penny Price Swedish massage 2 day course) qualification. Remedial massage differs from other types of massage in that the treatment should preferably be done before an injury occurs. Remedial massage attempts to go beyond the problem itself to the underlying cause. The course explores the effects of exercise on the body – the importance of correct warm up and cool down procedures. Pre and Post sport routines are covered and a general maintenance massage is discussed. The course also includes some A&P revision. There is focus on specific muscles – types of injury are discussed and ways of treating them taught. This is a CPD qualification available to fully qualified therapists who have full insurance to practice. The movements taught are an ‘add-in’ option to your existing massage routine.

Additional Massage Techniques– 2 days This course is aimed at the experienced therapist who wants to add further techniques to their ‘toolboxes’. There is an introduction to neuromuscular techniques and trigger points. Dermatomes are discussed along with their effects on pain in the body. There is inclusion of both passive and active movements into massage to mobilize the joints and tone the muscles. Case studies will be completed for a certificate of competence. Students must complete the Aromatherapeutic Body Massage course, or ACDA and Swedish Massage as a pre-requisite.
