SUMMER at St. Mary’s
THE MUSIC CONSERVATORYSt. Mary’s is pleased to offer several different options for private music lessons to our students and families. Suzuki violin, traditional piano, guitar, violin, cello and voice lessons are available at St. Mary’s. Students taking music lessons after school may stay in the after-care program free of charge until the time of their lesson. They will receive a healthy snack, recreation time as well as homework time for older girls. Siblings are also welcome to take lessons at St. Mary’s. Each teacher manages his/her own schedule, so please contact him/her directly regarding availability and fees.
SUZUKI VIOLINSt. Mary’s is pleased to offer the new Suzuki violin program. More than fifty years ago, Japanese violinist Shinichi Suzuki realized the implications of the fact that children learn to speak their native language with ease. He began to apply the basic principles of language acquisition to the learning of music, and called his method the mothertongue approach. The ideas of parent responsibility, loving encouragement, constant repetition, are some of the special features of the Suzuki approach. Parent Involvement - As when a child learns to talk, parents are involved in the musical learning of their child. They attend lessons with the child and serve as “home teachers” during the week. One parent often learns to play before the child, so that s/he understands what the child is expected to do. Parents work with the teacher to create an enjoyable learning environment.
