One student responded and, when asked the degree to which the courseworkprepared them to handle real-world problems, reported it “absolutely” did. This response wasa 5 on the 1-5 Likert scale used in the survey, surpassing our goal of 3.0.

Last year we had only two students completinginternships and failed to get any responses toour survey of students completing POL 490. Thisyear, our response rate was 50%, but that wasstill only one student, since only two completedPOL 490.

This spring we used a focus group, group surveyquestions, and some statements andsuggestions from course evaluations to try to getmore specific data about the success of EN 499:Capstone. This course is a difficult one to teach, and the department perhaps tries to cram toomuch information into it, leading to confusionfor the students who take it. The majorityappreciate the huge accomplishment of theCapstone Paper, but this year's information willbe some we can more easily use for positivechange which has been needed for over fiveyears. (See attached related document). Itseems that the students see the course asfragmented--they don't see the value of theextra assignments on a novel or periods ofliterature. However, they DO see as veryvaluable the long Capstone Paper, which theyare very proud of at the completion. Thesuggestions seem to say that the students wantmore focus on the paper itself (and perhapsapply the discussions of literature theory to theindividual papers). Several also suggested moreone or more paper conferences with the
