Note: - 1. The candidates will undergo the system of continuous evaluation as practiced in the

semester concept. In each semester, there will be 2 Lecturer’s Assessment (LA). A Semester Final Examination will follow this at the end of the semester on the condition that a candidate passes both of his/her LAs. The weightage for each evaluation (LAs and Final Exams) shall be: 50% Course Work / LA (will be conducted throughout the semester) and 50% End of Semester Examination (Final Examination)

2. With reference to the table below, the Passing Mark for each subject, the Passing Criteria for each subject is as below: a. 50% in every LA (2 LAs in total) for all subjects b. 50% or 60% in the Final Examination and 50% or 60% Overall (LA+ Final Examination)

depending on the subject. 3. 2 LAs shall be offered per subject for a semester. In order for a candidate to proceed to

the final semester exam for a subject, the candidate must pass both the LAs. The pass mark for an LA shall be 50%. Only one referral LA will be offered in order to address any one of the failed LA.

4. The referral LA shall be offered before the Semester Final Examination. If the candidate fails in the Referral LA, he/she will not be allowed to appear in the Final Examination of the subject. However, the candidate has to attend the remaining classes for all other subjects in order to fulfil the required 90% attendance criteria, failing which he/she may be required to repeat the whole semester.

5. A candidate that has failed in the Referral LA is then required to repeat a whole semester for the subject/s that he has failed when offered in subsequent programme schedules. On securing a Pass in the LAs offered during the repeat semester, the candidate may then proceed to the Final examination. Only one repeat semester will be allowed for those who initially did not pass their LAs in the normal semester.

6. In addition, if the candidate fails to sit for any of the 2 LAs without a valid reason, it would disqualify the candidate from sitting for the final exam and he/she needs to repeat the subject/s as above.

7. Summary of conditions for proceeding to Semester Final Exam a. 90% attendance to be met. b. A candidate shall not proceed to sit for the final semester paper for a subject unless

he/she has passed the lecturer’s assessment for the subject concerned. Each LA for a subject must be passed with a minimum of 50% failing which the candidate will be barred from sitting for the final exam for that paper.

8. If the candidate obtains a grade point average (GPA) of less than 1.7 or obtains a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of less than 2.0, he/she will be required to repeat the full course in the subsequent programme.

9. If the candidate fails in the Final Examination, he/she shall be offered only one attempt of Referral/Resit final examination. If the candidate fails in the Referral/Resit final examinations, he/she will be required to repeat the course for the failed Subject semester in the subsequent programme.

10. A final assessment by viva-voce will be conducted by Marine Department, Malaysia. Certification will be by Marine Department, Malaysia.

11. For Practical Assessments, relevant assessment sheets are used to evaluate skill levels and safe working practices.

12. Oral Assessment based on TARB book will be carried out after completion of the shipboard training.

13. A candidate that has not passed semester 4 will not be allowed on board a vessel to clock his/her sea time. A cadet who proceeds to sea on own his/her own accord without clearing his/her semester 4 exams will have his/her sea time clocked declared null & void.
