Short description: Comofi Innovations is developing a low cost robotic device for surgical application. Web site: No Industry: Healthcare The project/startup Stage of project/science: Basic prototype has been developed and tested on fruit model at Bangalore Hospital, Bangalore. We are working on design for integrated robotic arm with augmented reality. Company / team size: 3 Technology/science: nGuide (needle guide), has two components, 1. Robotic arm 2. Augmented reality (AR) based rib patch. AR system helps in gaining safe access to the organ and provides direction along with bull’s eye/triangulation technique. High precision robotic arm is operated using a remote station from a safer distance to reduce radiation exposure to the surgeon’s hands, eyes, and legs. nGuide system has a unique adaptor that snap fits different metal guides/guide wires according to the procedural requirement. Problem / Solution: Currently, in PCNL surgery, the renal access is gained manually which involves steeper learning curve, has increased chances of needle deflection, micro traumatization and requires longer radiation exposure time. We are developing a low cost robotic device, which automates PCNL puncture, has micron level accuracy, guides surgeon with minimum trauma to the patients using augmented reality, reduces radiation exposure, and enable even entry level endourologist to perform the surgery. Market Opportunity / Target customers: There are more than 3,100 urologists in India of which 70% perform PCNL surgery. There are total 200 M. Ch. urology training and D.N.B. award centers in India. Our target customer is new or wellestablished urology, kidney care centers/Clinics, hospital with urology departments, early adaptor of minimal invasive surgery. Current market size for robotic device is >300K $ and consumables would be >110K $/year. Competition and competitive advantage: There is no direct competition for this product. An indirect competition is from Siemens, Product name: UroDyna CT with syngo iGuide. We have competitive advantage over existing solutions in terms of product differentiation, first mover advantage and cost advantage where there is good head room to offer differential pricing to enterprise customers. The augmented reality based guidance system, low cost robot for precision puncture, remote access reducing radiation exposures are some of the unique feature that will give us edge on the current solutions. The team: Team size: 3. Satish Kalme, PhD, Satish has 14 yr of R&D experience in life sciences specially Dx product development. Satish has responsibility of product development, certification, early customer identification. Gururaj K. B., B. E. Elec & Comm, Guru has >8 yr of experience in medical instrumentation. His responsibility is in mechatronics, embedded programming, functionality and interfaces. Raghunath S. K. MBBS, MS, DNB (Urology), Dr. Raghunath is practicing medicine for 25 yr including 16 yr as Uro oncologist. He is director of advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery in HCG hospital, Bangalore. Dr. Raghunath is clinical advisor and has responsibility in clinical trials. Objectives in India Three achievements to accomplish: 1. Refined business model canvas with understanding on regulatory requirements 2. Interaction with potential investors 3. Identify potential industry partners, professionals, advisors, consultants for foreseen collaborations.
