RATIONALE

The Higher Education Act No. 7722 was enacted to

carry out the vision, mission and objectives of

tertiary institutions.

In 1976, the Aklan Agricultural College (AAC) now

Aklan State University (ASU) offered the Bachelor of

Science in Home Technology (BSHT) Program.

RATIONALE…

The BSHT program was re-accredited Level II by

the Accrediting Agency of Chartered Colleges and

Universities of the Philippines (AACCUP) in 2006.

The On-the-Job Training (OJT) was offered as a

thesis option for graduating BSHT students.

RATIONALE…

It is this context that the researchers attempted

to find out how the graduates cope with

standards adopted by the hotel/resort industry in

the tourist-crowded Island of Boracay.

Statement of the Problem

This study was conducted to determine the

academe- industry partnership towards a quality

home technology program of the Aklan State

University.

Specifically, it aimed to answer the following

problems:

1. What is the profile of the BSHT program in

terms of AACCUP’s evaluation on its:

1.1 vision, mission, goals and objectives;

1.2 faculty;

1.3 curriculum and instruction;

1.4 support to students;

METHODOLOGY

Respondents of the Study

Six Key Informants (KIs) which includes

either a Human Resource Officer or a

Supervisor of the cooperating industries in

Boracay.

Respondents of the Study

Six Cooperating industries in Boracay

Aklan.

Fifteen BSHT students

Data Gathering Instrument

Questionnaire for the BSHT graduates,

Human Resource Officer and Supervisor was

prepared and validated.

Data Analysis

The BSHT program profile was analyzed

according to the ratings obtained by the BSHT

program in the AACCUP survey result.

Data Analysis…

The BSHT employed graduates’ profile and the

industry profile were analyzed using the

descriptive statistics such as percentage, mean

and weighted mean. The same analyses were

likewise employed on the services and

amenities offered by the industry.

FINDINGS

Grand mean of AACCUP Evaluation: 3.90 - Very Good

Graduate – respondents were young (23.73

years old).

Majority were female, major in food and

nutrition.

Had been in the present job for one year and in

permanent status.

BSHT Employed Graduates

Majority of them were single and had received

their 13th month pay.

Majority had a corporate statement and were

accredited by DOT as class “AA”.

All business establishments contained the

necessary facilities required by DOT.

SUMMARY

The evaluation was conducted to determine the

profile of the BSHT program based on the review

of the ten areas in the AACCUP evaluation

documents.

Evaluation of BSHT employed graduates and the

Hotel/Resort industry profile where they

employed.

SUMMARY…

Fifteen BSHT employed graduates from year

2000-2007 were the respondents and six KIs

were interviewed and these were the managers,

supervisors and Hotel management officer in

Academy School.

The evaluation was done using descriptive

statistics employing mean and median to

determine the numerical and descriptive

ratings.

SUMMARY…

The numerical ratings on the performance of

the BSHT employed graduates and narrative

accounts of KIs and respondent revealed the

gaps that offer opportunities in making

decisions and formulate policies towards the

strengthening and Best Program of Aklan State

University.

ASU BSHT Program Planners and the Hotel

industry needs to strengthened to supply the

needed skills in the industry after graduation of

the student.

Limited skills in food service and bartendering

that the industry need.

BSHT graduates have inadequate knowledge

in the operation of the different equipment in

housekeeping, laundry and kitchen.

RECOMMENDATIONS

The BSHT students should undergo intensive

personality development seminars/trainings.

More subjects in English communication skills,

particularly speech lessons and business

correspondence.

Offer foreign language subject to be more

interactive and became assets to the industry.

Review the BSHT curriculum to be responsive

to the needs of the industry.

Enhancement training of the BSHT faculty on

hotel/restaurant operations to update their skills

in the latest trend of hospitality.

The university to hire new faculty with

specialization needed by the curriculum.
