The exhibition contains a great number of paintings by these artists. None of them belongs to a movementof school. The relations within their work – although based on unexpressed affinities – are none the less realand even fundamental. The unique power of painting as a tool of visual expression is their conviction.

.

The title of the exhibition – Abstract? – is based on a painting that Roger Raveel made in 1958. The questionmark expresses his will to emphasize the complex relation between figuration and abstraction, both artificialcategories that are never unambiguous in their meaning.
