About Lincoln
Born February 12, 1809 in Hardin County, Kentucky
He served as captain in the Black Hawk War, spent 8 years in the Illinois legislature, worked as a lawyer
Married Mary Todd and had 4 boys.
Major Accomplishments

- Leading the nation through
the Civil War
Before Presidency
-Served as a Whig in the Illinois Legislature and served in the House of Republican but later resigned to run for Senate.-Debated with Stephen Douglas 7 times and it became known as the Lincoln and Douglas Debates.
During Presidency-Nominated by the Republican Party with Hannibal Hamlin as his running mate.-Lincoln won by 40% of popular vote and 180 of 303 electors.Seven states seceded from the Union.-Became President on March 4, 1861.-Civil War started while Lincoln was president.
After Presidency-Was elected as a candidate for president again in 1864.-Went against George McClellan and he claimed that Lincoln took away too many civil liberties and that the war was a failure.-Lincoln won because the war turned in the favor of the North during the campaign.
Emancipation Proclamation Claimed that all slaves were released
but only the slaves that lived in the states that are not under the control of the Union were released.
Allowed African-American to fight for the Union.

Lasted 4 years from 1861-1865.
Started after South Carolina attack a fort on April 12, 1861.
After the Civil War
Slaves were emancipated.
Rise of the Ku Klux Klan
The dislikes between the North and the South grew.
End Shot on April 14, 1865
but died of April 15 by John Wilkes Booth
Lincoln’s wife, Mary Todd, Major Henry R. Rathbone and Clara Harris, Rathbone’s fiancé, were right next to him when he got shot.
Lincoln is consider one of the best Presidents in the history of presidents.
