serve as a grievance desk and

Not at the expense o our chil-

    Akap Bata Party-List today as

they air alarm over series o

    Benigno Simeon Aquino III

Akap Bata Airs Alarm Over Rising Casesof Violence Against Children

    mere petty-crimes and regular

    scene on daily news programs.

Akap Bata Party-List pointed-out that acts released by main-

    stream media showing sharp in-

    crease o rape-slay cases rom

    2,587 (2001) to a record-high

    4,016 (2011) and the Philip-

    pine National Polices rape-slay

    cases on February 2012 alone

    that reached 17 incidents need

    serious attention and resolu-

    tion rom the government. They

    stressed that President Aquino

    must immediately do his home-

work and must not waste his

time doing nothing i he doesnt

want more children to be vic-

    timized as days pass by.

    The alarming rate and worsen-

    ing child protection situation in

    the Philippines clearly refects

the society we have and the u-

ture we want to pass-on to our

    next generation. It urther man-

iests that our government lacksmeasures in deending and pro-

moting the rights o every Fili-

    pino child, says Arlene Brosas,

    national secretary-general o

    Akap Bata Party-List.

    She added, We challenge

    PNoy to ully and strongly

    implement existing child pro-

    tection laws and policies like

    Republic Act 7610 (Anti Child

    Abuse Law), Republic Act

    9262 (Anti-Violence against

    Women and Children Law) and

others alike. What use are these

laws to children i they are not

    implemented?

    Akap Bata Party-List said that

i the State has clear child pro-

tection eorts then it must have

    programs to train communities

    and child carers, services or

children and greater subsidy orsocial services in the best inter

est o children. They added tha

i the State is able to address

and provide or the basic needs

    o children and their amilies

    like shelter, education, ood and

    jobs or their parents, children

would be o the streets and less

prey to abuse, violence and kill-

    ings.

We are not playing here. Presi-

    dent Aquino must always bear

in mind that a single addition

to the growing number o death

    and abuse cases o children

    contributes vast social cost be

cause what we are losing here is

    a lie and a productive orce o

    the uture, ended Brosas.

    Nothing left to feed our

    children!

    Child rights party-list Akap

    Bata staged a Lugaw Protest

    during the North Triangle ex-

    pedition o the Peoples Cara-

Justice in Sitio San Roque in

    Quezon City today. The group

to kids in the community as

    ing imposition o new rounds

o price hikes on oil products

this week, as announced by the

    various commodities like sug-

    ar, vegetable among others and

    services like electricity raise

its prices due to increase o

    uel charges.

Akap Bata Party-List Joins Peoples Caravan

for Jobs, Homes and Social JusticeThe group called the eight con-

secutive oil price hikes at the

onset o the year 2012 utter

    greediness as they also criti-

    cizes Aquino governments in-

action. The group said that The

road to tuwid na daan is clearly

    expensive. This is because the

    big oil companies, through the

    help o its mouthpiece Aquino

    government clearly choose

    prot over ood.

    Akap Bata Party-list Spokes-

    person, Lean Peace Flores says,

While the prices o oil and ba-

    sic commodities are skyrocket-

ing, the salary o our workorc-

    es remains meager. I wonder

i the oil companies and even

    the government ever wonder

or care how our parents, guard-

    ians and child-carers will eed

    the children? She added that

    The way the Aquino admin

deend the price hikes, the an-

swer is obviously a clear and a

    big no.

Akap Bata is alarmed by how

the constant oil price hikes a-

ect the prices o basic com-

    modities like ood. The group

    explained that when the oil

prices are high, the prices o

    basic commodities will de-

nitely ollow. In the past ew

    days, prices o vegetables have

    skyrocketed due to increased

    trucking ees.

    A 2012 UNICEF study has

    already exposed the dangers

o poverty and how it puts the

    health condition o the children

at risk. The study said that this

is evident in the urban poor set-

ting. Flores agreed and said tha

    For so long, Filipino amilies

    cannot aord the nutritious

    ood that their children needs

This will only worsen the health

    condition o our children. Hun

    ger incidences and malnutrition

    gures among children wil

    The number o underweigh
