SICATServing the cash requirement of the economy is one of the mandates of the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas to ensure uninterrupted operations of the payment and settlement mechanism and maintain financial system stability. In the Philippines possible interruptions in cash operation such as utilities outage (e.g. power, communication), technological failures, fires, natural disaster, and even pandemic outbreaks, among others, are inevitable and occur indiscriminately. The challenge then is to map out a plan so that cash operations will continue once a disaster strikes. The distribution of currency throughout the country and the withdrawal of soiled and mutilated notes from circulation are important roles played by the Currency Chest System in compliance with the Reserve Bank of India’s (RBI) Clean Note Policy. It will explain how RBI, with its incentives and penalties, oversees the operations of the currency chests to ensure that the Clean Note Policy is adhered to and all transactions comply with RBI requirement. Future enhancements of Currency Chests include process automation; rationalisation and consolidation of Currency Chests to form mega Currency Chests; Direct Remittance; the ‘Hub and Spoke’ model, and Cash Processing Centres.

IS A STANDBY FEATURE NEEDED TO COUNTER A SUDDEN COUNTERFEIT ATTACK?JURA - BARNA BARABÁS A sudden emergence of counterfeit attack is a nightmare for central banks. A general security print design with the help of a smart phone would be a good defense against a sudden counterfeit attack.

A lot of effort has gone into developing this capability. During the development process we have analyzed the printing process, the capturing process and certainly the forgeries. In the printing process analysis we have compared different printing technologies that might be used during the falsification process.

As we are talking about high security printed products the print itself by definition should be a high resolution offset or intaglio print printed with high quality printing machines. The identification would be done with smart phones and the idea is to develop an application that can identify and authenticate the security print from forgeries.

The presentation will describe the process itself and give some details about the challenges that we faced during the development process including statistics and test results.
