Annually, approximately 1000 candidates from the consortium (and several non-consortium institutions) attend the PERC Education Job Fair. Participating employers interview and hire teacher candidates in all Pre K-12 disciplines, as well as related professional certification areas such as school counseling, school social work, speech language pathology, OT, PT, and nursing.

PERC was a way for me to gain self-confidence in myself and show what I could bring to the table in any school district. It gave me experience for other interviews that followed and took the nerves away. Without PERC, I would not have known what to expect from future employers and what schools look for in their teachers. If you do not want to move that is okay, but go for the experience anyways. I promise you will have more confidence and a more positive mindset than you did walking in.

The PERC job fair gave me the best opportunity to start my career. I arrived early which allowed me to get to the front of the line for some schools. Over the course of the day I interviewed with approximately 13 schools and got offered contracts for three jobs. If you are honestly are looking for a job do not miss out on the opportunity of going to PERC. It can be nerve wracking and intimidating at first but all the employers make it great. The employers at PERC are looking to hire teachers, do not miss this opportunity.

Candidate Testimonials

First and foremost, I want to thank you for providing us such a beneficial opportunity to receive practice interviewing and in the “real world.” I had a blast and couldn’t have asked for better outcomes.

Here’s what I experienced:• I sat through seven interviews - each of them were lovely! Some stood out to others, but each was enjoyable and educational. I

interviewed with: Fairfax County Public Schools, Stafford County Public Schools, Caroline County Public Schools, Culpeper County Public Schools, Louisa County Public Schools, Prince William County Public Schools, and Prince George County Public Schools.

• I received three letters of intent from Caroline County Public Schools, Culpeper County Public Schools, and Prince William County Public Schools.

• I received two job offers. One from Caroline County Public Schools, the other from Culpeper County Public Schools. I have scheduled visits to these School Districts to determine which is the best fit for me.

I found the PERC very beneficial. I not only received practice with interviewing, but there were so many schools I was interested in present. For any future MAT students, I highly recommend attending the PERC Job Fair! Even if there aren’t any schools students are interested in, it’s beneficial to get a taste as to what to expect when interviewing with real employers. Additionally, I was able to ask questions of said employers that gave me personal and professional feedback. Plus, leaving with job opportunities is a huge plus! If any future students wish to speak to someone, please give them my information - I’d love to share my experiences further.

Mercedes Hopkins & Yvette Smith Mason, Ed.D., Wayne County Public Schools

My experience at PERC is always an amazing experience as a recruiter. Wayne County Public Schools is always delighted to attend the PERC recruitment day annually because we find great teachers to hire for our district. The PERC experience is a well organized, day long event that always provides me with a wealth of resources, teacher applicants and an opportunity to network with new colleagues and friends from across the county. Wayne County Public Schools will return again and again to PERC to hire several teachers every year. I am very thankful to be a PERC partner and look forward to next year!

Our district has visited the PERC Job Fair several times over the past 4 years. We meet solid candidates that are prepared to teach in an urban education environment with students from poverty. Relocating is always an issue when visiting job fairs out-of-state, but the candidates that attend the PERC Job Fair are open to new opportunities and get right to work! Just in our first visit to the job fair in 2016, we met a candidate from Duquesne University, Julianne DeLay. She became one of our district teachers of the month out of 12,000 teachers just in her 3rd year!

I had a wonderful experience at PERC! The PERC experience begins with your save the date notice and then the follow-up. Then it’s almost arrival time and you receive all final information. Everything is detailed, leaving no question unanswered. We arrived the day before to the conference center. The booths are all set and labeled. They even had snacks, water and a steamer for wrinkles. This Fair was well organized! Thank you PERC Committee for all your hard work, see you in 2020!

PERC is able to give non-traditional education routes such as

Peace Corps the chance to reach out to students who might

not have thought about our organization prior to the fair.

The Peace Corps offers a unique opportunity for educators to

gain invaluable experience utilizing their teaching skills in a

developing country whether it be directly after graduation, or

later in life.
