About IIPS

In 1956, Government of India, United Nations and Sir Dorabji Tata Trust, jointly established IIPS to serve as a regional centre for teaching, training and conducting research in the area of population studies in ESCAP region. This is the only recognized Deemed University of its kind in the world completely devoted to teaching and research on population related areas. It is under the auspices of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.

IIPS offers following regular courses, namely, Diploma in Health Promotion Education (DHPE), Post-Graduate Diploma in Community Health Care (PGDCHC), M.A/M.Sc in Population Studies (two-year), M.Sc. in Biostatistics and Demography (two-year), Master of Population Studies (MPS) (one-year), Master of Philosophy (M.Phil) (one-year), Ph.D and PDF programme. The institute also runs distant learning courses through correspondence for Master of Population Studies (MPS). The institute also conducts short-term courses from time-to-time for various organizations on population and health issues.

About Nagpur

Nagpur is the second capital and the third largest city of the state of Maharashtra after Mumbai and Pune. It

this the 13 largest urban agglomeration in India and the largest city in Vidarbha Region. Nagpur is situated precisely at the heart of India with the Zero Mile Marker specifying the geographical center of India. Dragon Palace

One of the finest examples of superb architecture and scenic landscape. It is a Buddhist temple and one of the most popular tourist attract ions in Nagpur. Situated in Kamptee, Nagpur district, the temple is about20kms from Nagpur city, on the Nagpur –Jabalpur road. It is considered as a landmark of Indo-Japan friendship as Madam Noriko Ogawa from Ogawa Society Japan financially contributed in the construction of this beautiful piece of architecture.

Zero Mile

At the centre of Nagpur city "Zero Mile Stone of India" is located from where the distance of all the cities of India is calculated.

Background of the Seminar

The rich heritage, philosophies of life, spirituality and humanity, art of living and religious faiths practice by people across states in India is the kaleidoscope of people in the world. Philosophers, social scientists and leaders of nations big and small in the world from the past to the present have attempted and are attempting to unfold the contribution of people of various socio-cultural beliefs inhabited in different agro-climatic zones, engaged in self subsistence production and livelihood activities which makes India a unique country but the diversity of the country makes the journey endless. However new empirical evidences surfaces from emerging flow of data which continuously enriches human knowledge for the unveiling of the great nation to the outmost level. The volume of new data which were not available but are now available from Census 2011, District Level Household & Facility Survey (DLHS-4, 2012-13), National Family Health Survey (NHFS-4, 2015-16), Longitudinal Aging Survey in India (LASI Pilot, 2010), Global Adult Tobacco Survey India (GATS India, 2009), WHO-SAGE I(2007-08), Building Knowledge on Population Aging in India (BKPAI, 2011), recent India Human Development

stSurvey (IHDS II, 2011-12) and NSSO 71 round on Morbidity and Health (2013-14) have provided scholars a great opportunity to learnt more about India.

On the basis of the aforesaid cornerstone the International Institute for Population Sciences (IIPS) will organize two-days National Seminar on “Population

stand Development: Issues and Challenges in 21 . Century” at Nagpur, Maharashtra, during March 18-19, 2016.

Instructions for submitting abstracts

Researchers, academicians, NGOs, programme managers and those working in the areas of population, health, environment, gender and development are invited to contribute their research papers. The paper must be based on empirical evidences, theoretical perspectives, methodological innovations, micro-level experiments, policies and programs relevant to the seminar themes. Those interested to contribute papers for the seminar should upload an abstract of not more
