JOB DESCRIPTION Title of Post: Shop Supervisor Location: Hospice Shop, Rathfriland Street, Banbridge Reports to: Commercial Retail Manager Hours: 35 hours per week, 5 days per week including Saturday AIM To promote the Hospice brand effectively and consistently to maximise income from the Hospice shop. Supported by a team of volunteers, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day supervision of all shop activity, carrying out agreed procedures and routines and ensuring excellent customer care whilst protecting the best interests of Southern Area Hospice Services in dealing with donors, customers and volunteers. JOB DESCRIPTION

Title of Post: Shop Supervisor

Location: Hospice Shop, Rathfriland Street, Banbridge

Reports to: Commercial Retail Manager

Hours: 35 hours per week, 5 days per week including Saturday

AIMTo promote the Hospice brand effectively and consistently to maximise income from the Hospice shop.

Supported by a team of volunteers, you will be responsible for the effective and efficient day-to-day supervision of all shop activity, carrying out agreed procedures and routines and ensuring excellent customer care whilst protecting the best interests of Southern Area Hospice Services in dealing with donors, customers and volunteers.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Sales To work consistently and creatively to high standards, meeting weekly and

monthly sales targets and introducing new and innovative ideas, reflecting current trends, developing new and innovative ideas for the sourcing and marketing of stock.

To maintain a high standard of merchandising and visual display of stock in the shop and to ensure that appropriate levels of stock are processed to the shop floor and rotated as required - and to co-ordinate the recycling and disposal of non-saleable goods.

To create and regularly refresh window displays to reflect seasons, themes and key Hospice messages and campaigns.

To actively encourage the public to donate saleable stock. To ensure stock room and other facilities are always clean, tidy and safe. To price goods according to Hospice pricing and merchandising policies. To always demonstrate excellent customer service. To promote Gift Aid to all customers and ensure adherence to policy and

accurate processing of Gift Aid donations in the shop to maximise profits. To supervise, motivate, manage and support shop volunteers in the achievement

of Key Performance Indicators and targets, financial and other.

Finance & Administration To follow financial and security procedures, including cash handling, banking and

associated administration in accordance with the Southern Area Hospice’s policies and procedures.

To maintain, analyse and report on weekly sales records, updating and contributing to regular meetings regarding performance and in particular trends, stock and sales promotions.

To hold sole responsibility for the daily operations of the shop, including preparing lodgements, end of day sales, banking income, generating reports on Gift Aid, stocktakes. etc.

To provide the Commercial Retail Manager with weekly shop rotas, ensuring there is adequate cover at peak times and over holiday periods.

Volunteers To liaise with SAHS Volunteer Co-ordinators to ensure adequate/ appropriate

numbers of volunteers are recruited and available. To supervise, motivate and train volunteers and carry out inductions with new

volunteers to ensure compliance with health and safety training and familiarity with all operating procedures.

To ensure all volunteers have adequate product knowledge, customer service skills and ability to operate within the agreed operating procedures including a sound knowledge and understanding of Gift Aid requirements and procedures.

To organise a rota to ensure the shop runs effectively and the sales floor and store room tasks are allocated and completed.

Other To develop positive working relationships with other shop supervisors,

colleagues within the Income Generation Team and wider staff group and to attend and contribute positively to retail and other meetings as required.

To inform the shop team of all relevant communications and information relating to fundraising events.

To hold the shop keys, ensuring the shop is secure when unattended. In conjunction with the Commercial Retail Manager, identify opportunities for

improvement – sales, presentation, driving other fundraising activity, etc. To maintain confidentiality and comply with all data protection and GDPR

practices and procedures - alerting your manager to any breaches.To undertake any other duties as reasonably required by your line manager.

Health & Safety Responsibilities To assume responsibility for the security of the shop floor and stock room

reporting any irregularities to the line manager and ensuring that SAHS meets its statutory obligations in all areas pertaining to health, safety and welfare at work, including statutory training and reporting.

Ensure that all accidents are documented, investigated and recommended actions or improvements are implemented.

Ensure that safety inspections are carried out, fire drills and fire alarms are correctly reported, safety inspections, risk assessments and lone working procedures are managed and adhered to and that employees and volunteers where appropriate are aware of their responsibilities.

PERSONNEL SPECIFICATIONSHOP SUPERVISOR

Criteria Essential DesirableExperience One years’ supervisory experience in a

retail environment, including experience of till operation, cash handling and recording, window dressing, merchandising and shop presentation

Experience of achieving weekly financial targets

Knowledge and experience in the charitable retail sector

Experience of supervising volunteers

Skills & Knowledge

Excellent customer service skills – communication and interpersonal

Excellent organisational skills with the ability to co-ordinate activities

Creativity in identifying and implementing sales opportunities

Ability to demonstrate initiative and be pro-active

Self-motivated, flexible, enthusiastic and with a positive approach to work

IT skills – competent in the use of email and software such as Word and Excel

Knowledge of using social media as promotion platform

Understanding of using on-line shopping platforms, e.g. EBay to maximise sales opportunities

Other Requirements

Current driving licence and access to a car for work purposes (or able to organise suitable alternative arrangements)

Flexible approach – able to work Saturdays and provide cover in other shops as required

Ability to lift and manoeuvre to meet the requirements of the role
