Welcome to the RSNo’s new Season in aberdeen. The orchestra, RSNo chorus and i are looking forward to playing our part in the 150th anniversary celebrations of the wonderful Music Hall, our aberdeen home.

We’re proud of our new 09:10 Season; we’ve been creating it and making arrangements for over three years. There are some threads that weave throughout the Season; themes and links that knit together pieces and programmes. This year we will be looking at music inspired by works of literature: the exotic stories of Scheherazade; the epic tales of Peer Gynt and Taras Bulba; and a classic novel, Don Quixote.

composers from the 20th and 21st centuries are well represented in the Season, with a great european premiere by Michael Daugherty and contemporary works by oliver Knussen, alongside established masterpieces by Stravinsky, Janácek and Richard Strauss.

as well as welcoming four world-class soloists, i’m very pleased that our concerts this Season will be conducted by members of our ‘home team’ – myself (twice), my predecessor, RSNo conductor emeritus alexander lazarev, and RSNo assistant conductor, the very talented austrian, David Danzmayr.

So let us open up the story book together and enter a world where the only boundary is our own imagination!

chaleureusement,

Stéphane DenèveRSNo Music Director
