Who We WereAAPI was founded in the midst of challenges that physicians of Indian Origin faced due to culturalbarriers and bias against international medical graduates. Tose barriers created obstacles forimmigration and licensing opportunities. In 1982 a group of concerned medical professionalsfounded the American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin with a simple goal to work for alevel playing eld for the international medical graduates.

oday, the organization is a dynamic body, spearheading legislative agendas and inuencing theadvancement of medical care in the US and globally through advocating for increasing physicianwork force, participating in national health initiatives such as obesity prevention and investing inglobal health education.
