…Rumour has it,Mykonos was named after the local hero ‘Mykons’ who was worshiped in the antiquity as the son of the Ancient Greek God Apollo- the God of the Light; protector of the arts. This reflects exactly why this small island became the mecca for artists, intellectuals and jet-set-ting celebrities from all around the world. In The 50s, Mykonos became the muse of contradic-tions: the island’s cornerstones of simplicity & the sense of free-dom, attracted intellectual figures & bohemian personalities of the post-world war. This inspired the Queen Frederica to orga-nize a cruise for the European Royals. During which time, a wounded pelican bird was found. The story of ‘Petros the Pelican’ means Rock; the bizarre mascot. After Petros’s death, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, who considered herself deeply rooted with the island, donated a pelican to the residents.

In the Golden 60s, the richest figures in Greece, were shipowners, Stavros Niarchos & Aristotle Onassis. They decided to show out the whole world Mykonos’ its unpretentious yet flam-boyant & radiant allure. The extrava-gant activist and award-winning actress Melina Mercouri & the angelic voice with the elegant personality of Maria Callas enlightened big Hollywood stars like Marlon Brando, Brigitte Bardot, Richard Burton and Grace Kelly to walk in the golden sandy shores and explore the picturesque little white streets ’sokakia’ of Town. DIVING INTO SACRED WATERS Imagine yourself diving in the largest system of underwater caves that only Tulum offers. Cenotes were sacred to Mayans not only for providing water, but they used it for sacrifices also. Today, cenotes are considered sacred and many are closed to the public. And Tulum is home to some of the largest systems of underwater caves in the entire world! While swimming or diving the system ‘Sac Actum’ of cenotes, meaning the ‘white cave system’, you will be charmed by the stalactites hanging from the underwater roofs.
