__ September 2016 __ A VIEW FROM THE PULPIT In our church, Sunday morning worship always includes music; there will be an introit, an anthem, perhaps some special music and at least three hymns. In Mary Lou’s church it meant lots and lots and lots of music. Music from their 75 member choir to their band with electric guitars, music from the grand piano and pipe organ to their electronic keyboard and full drum set. The Bible says to “Make a joyful noise unto the Lord” and they do, a wonderfully loud, joyful sound. Jesus once told a story illustrating how we should use our talents for the Lord. “And unto one he gave five talents, to another two and to another one; to each according to their ability” (Matthew 25:15). This story is about far more than just the use of our money. It covers everything God has given us. One particular Sunday, Mary Lou noticed an addition to the diverse collection of instruments there getting ready for the morning worship service. Way in the far back corner was her friend, Ashley, almost hidden by guitars, bass, drums, and more. She was as Mary Lou knew a very talented musician and Mary Lou wondered what Ashley might play (she played five instruments) but as the music for the service began, Ashley only held up a tambourine. Mary Lou thought “how could anyone appreciate Ashley’s talent when all she was holding was that little tambourine”. The bigger, noisier instruments would surely drown her out and who could even hear her over the multitude of voices in the choir. But as the song progressed, an amazing thing happened. Above the rhythmic pounding of the drums, the penetrating sound of the electric guitars and the ripple of piano keys, and all the voices of the choir came a simple happy sound. The jingle of the tambourine in Ashley’s hand certainly made a joyful noise unto the Lord. It was a sound that Mary Lou knew came not just from Ashley’s wrist but from her heart. Our Fall Bazaar is October 1st this year. It is an opportunity for us to use the talents that God has given. In Matthew 25:15-29 we are given a promise (and God keeps His promises) for us if we use what He has given us. We should always remember that when a talent is lifted to God, no talent or effort is ever two small. Rev. __ September 2016 __ A VIEW FROM THE PULPIT

In our church, Sunday morning worship always includes music; there will be an introit, an anthem, perhaps some special music and at least three hymns.

But as the song progressed, an amazing

thing happened.

KIDS WITH THE FIREMEN

On August 2nd, NATIONAL NIGHT OUT was a huge success! Many people, including some elected officials, visited. The kids enjoyed playing on the inflatable slide and checking out the fire truck. Tours were given of the church, live bluegrass & gospel music was

provided by the Rev. Walton Family Band, and food and drink were provided to all. I would like to thank all that helped make the night a success. Plans are to continue National Night Out as a yearly event. I would like to thank all the church members that assisted in all aspects of making the event happen!

Sincerely, Jeff Cashion

There is the story of a pastor who got up one Sunday and announced to his congregation: "I have good news and bad news. The good news is we have

enough money to pay for our new building program. The bad news is it's still out there in your pockets."
