A Thank You & Farewell to
Mary Murphy! Mary Murphy has been part of the St. Joseph’s
Parish community for the past 18 years and a
dedicated member of our Parish staff, working in the pastoral field
and more recently as Manager of the St. Joe’s Supper Table. Over
almost two decades, Mary has seen our community evolve, and she
has been an important part of that growth. Her commitment to
reaching out to those on the margins of our society, an integral part
of our Parish mission, has defined her work at St. Joseph’s, and we
are grateful for her vision and leadership.
Mary is relocating to Edmonton and will take on an exciting new
job. To thank Mary for her work at St. Joseph’s and to wish her the
best, we are organizing a farewell pot-luck on Thursday, Nov. 9,
2017 at 7 pm in the Parish Hall. All parishioners, volunteers, Parish
staff, guests of the Supper Table and clients of the Women’s Centre
are welcome.
Please confirm your attendance and contribute to the pot-luck either
at the Welcome Desk or by contacting Sharon ([email protected])
or Diane ([email protected]). Extra hands for set-up and clean-up
are also appreciated.
We look forward to honouring Mary and her dedication to our Par-
ish.

Messages & Photos for Mary There will be cards available at the Welcome Desk
over the next two weekends on which you can express
your best wishes to Mary. These cards will be placed in
a photo album along with photos of Mary and St. Joes parishioners.
If you have photos of Mary that you’d like to be included in the
photo album, please bring them to church either this this weekend or
the next and leave them at the Welcome Desk. Please identify who is
shown in the photo and an estimated date.
Furthermore, if you would like a photo taken of you and/or your
family to accompany your best wishes, Terry Byrne will be around
the Welcome Desk this weekend to take these photos.
Development & Peace's Partner Shares in Nobel Peace Prize—This year's Nobel Peace Prize has
been awarded to the International Campaign to Abolish Nuclear Weapons for its work on the Prohibition of Nuclear Weapons at
the United Nations. Development & Peace’s partner, PAX, tries to prevent and end armed violence and build peace. The "We Are
All Citizens" project in Iraq and Syria works to ease religious tensions and build awareness about discrimination and violations
against minority groups. Hundreds of young community leaders have been trained. The Treaty on the Prohibition of Nuclear
weapons was adopted by 122 countries at the United
Nations. Approximately 53 countries have signed but
Canada has not participated in the negotiation nor
signed the treaty. PAX studies the relationship be-
tween nuclear arms producers, and financial institu-
tions and pension plans which provide operating capi-
tal and also the countries who manufacture the com-
ponents for the nuclear weapons industry. Canada is
involved. Development & Peace congratulates the
international partner PAX for their peace building
effort. Info: devp.org

News from around the Table…
The Supper Table Mary Murphy, Manager

www.stjsuppertable.ca \
Good News!—Office Manager Brandon
Rushton has been named the Interim Manager
of the Supper Table. He will officially assume
the position as of Monday, Nov. 13 and man-
age the Supper Table until at least the new
year. He will still be performing a few of his
operational duties, but I am confident we will
not miss a beat.
Brandon has a great relationship with our
guests and volunteers and will be bringing his
many gifts to the ministry of the Supper Ta-
ble. Brandon can be reached at brushton@
st-josephs.ca.
Guest Perspective—This past week, one of or
guests commented “I was really nervous to
come here and even a little scared, but I am so
glad I did.” Just recently that person started to
bring a friend and help spread out message.
It’s becoming more and more apparent that
people come as much for company as they do
for the meal we serve.
