DESCRIPTION
A brief visual journey that investigates the properties of a lemon.
Citation preview
The lemon is considered
a hybrid of sour orange and citron.
Round slices of a lemon
best reveal its intricate geometry.
A lemon cut in this manner reminds
me of a flower with symmetrically
positioned petals that extend from
the center of the lemon’s core.
The pulp The pulp is a structure formed in a lemon’s tightly
clustered compartments of plant’s cells that contain
lemon juice.
Lemon juice is sour in taste.
Raw lemon juice is most commonly used
as flavor enhancing ingredient in
a variety of meals.
In addition, lemons are rich in vitamin C.
Vitamin C is vital for immune function, therefore,
consumption of this fruit in moderate amounts daily
is good for the body.
I do have to mention, however, that only
organic lemons provide nutritional value.
None-organic lemons or GMO lemons are not
healthy or nutritious because the fruit cells have been
genetically modified by scientists.
Genetic manipulations are unsafe because they may
cause mutations inside of fruit
that can cause an allergic reaction when consumed
as the body perceives it as a foreign object.
The same principle applies to lemons that
have been treated with pesticides
during their growth. The chemicals that
penetrate the skin of a lemon accumulate in its
pulp and get transferred to the human body
during consumption.
Consumption of pesticide treated lemons is
dangerous due to chemicals infiltrating the
blood stream and populating the human
body with toxins.
Going back to taste, my best experience of enjoying
a lemon was a few years ago during my visit to
California when I had a chance to taste a natural
home grown lemon.
The fruit was more orange than yellow and
its surface more perforated than one
would expect to find on an average lemon.
Fresh, sweet aroma was enveloping the fruit and
to my surprise the lemon had a sweet and
pleasant taste.
