Still Spain’s leading fine wine region not least because of their mastery at ageing wines, releasing them only when ready to drink. 2016, 2015 and 2010 are excellent vintages for the reds whilst the older vintages featured here are fully mature. Whites (blancos) are the big news in Rioja where,

after years of underwhelming quality, there is a resurgence of delicious, oak-aged styles: we have extended our range of white Riojas this year accordingly.

NEW Gomez Cruzado Cerro Las Cuevas Rioja 2015A rare, single-varietal bottling of tempranillo from a vineyard lying at 700 metres altitude in the northern part of the Alta district. This is the most Atlantic-influenced part of Rioja which, combined with the high altitude, results in an intense, exquisite red balanced by wonderful acidity and freshness. Adriana Laucirica, the new winemaker at Tobelos, has crafted a beautiful white Rioja which is perfumed, peachy and plump, with just a hint of oak. 80% viura, 10% garnacha and a touch of sauvignon to cleverly lift the aromatics.
