Prompt 1• Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 are the

overarching titles of major conversations at conferences, in articles, on discussion lists and blogs about what the next generation of the web will look like.  It seems like the definition of 2.0 stuff is like holding water in your hands.  How would each of your describe Web 2.0 and its offspring like Library 2.0?

Prompt 2• Describe a few Library 2.0

opportunities.  Where is the real action right now?  Like art, can this this trend only be truly appreciated when we see it?

Prompt 3• We're hearing this fairly new word

"mashup" which is quite intriguing.  It comes from the music world where kids are mashing together different songs and videos in unusual ways to create new works and experiences.  What do software mashups mean to library systems and portals?  Can you describe some opportunities?  Why is this suddenly so exciting and popular?

Prompt 4• The ILS (Integrated Library System) has

traditionally been about integrating the management systems of libraries horizontally - crossing stovepipes of OPACs, circulation, ILL, acquisitions, etc.  Now it seems that we've passed a tipping point and we can integrate vertically - out through portals, mashups and portlets etc. to integrate into the broader community, learning spaces and workplaces.  Is there a major strategic shift here for management in libraries?   Or can we just plan like usual?

Prompt 5• Are library workers prepared for this

new world?  What are the competencies and attitudes required to meet the needs of users and take advantage of the 2.0 world of opportunities? (API skills, Java skills, XML skills, AJAX, etc.)  Is there a Librarian 2.0 emerging?

final comments before we go to questions?
