A Sharing of Speech: Scholarship on or Inspired by the Work of Luce Irigaray 8th Conference of The Irigaray Circle The Institute for Theological Partnerships at the University of Winchester, UK June 23 rd -25 th 2017 Luce Irigaray’s work has inspired and influenced scholars in a broad range of disciplines and this conference will examine the diversity of scholarship inspired and informed by the philosophy of Luce Irigaray. It will bring together academics and other delegates drawing on Luce Irigaray’s immense body of work and will offer a significant opportunity for sharing research and networking. ‘A Sharing of Speech’ will engage with Irigaray in fields such as politics, philosophy, aesthetics, visual culture, linguistics, literature, media and cultural studies, psychoanalysis, religious studies, music, sound studies, architecture, education and legal studies. The conference will feature the following keynote speakers: Professor Ellen Mortensen, Literature, University of Bergen Research focuses on the borderlines between literature and philosophy including theoretical work on feminist, gender theory, and queer theory. Professor Mortensen’s major work has been on Luce Irigaray and her thinking on sexual difference. Professor Tina Chanter, Philosophy, Kingston University London Research currently focuses on questions of aesthetics, politics, and gender in relationship with race, class and sexuality. Professor Chanter’s work is informed by figures such as Levinas, Derrida, Irigaray, Kristeva, and Rancière. While it draws on these philosophical figures, and retains a disciplinary basis in philosophy it has become increasingly interdisciplinary. Dr Yvette Russell, Law, University of Bristol Research focuses on the work of Luce Irigaray; feminist theory; queer theory; poststructuralist philosophy; critical legal studies; criminal justice; criminal law; sexual offences. Dr Lucy Bolton, Film Studies, Queen Mary University of London Research focuses on film and philosophy, with particular interest in feminist philosophy and phenomenology. Dr Bolton has published widely on the relationship between the work of Luce Irigaray and cinema, and this forms an ongoing part of my research and teaching.

About WinchesterThe Winchester campus is very compact, and accommodation and all Conference sessions are very

close together. The University of Winchester’s City Campus is in the centre of Winchester, a ten minute walk from Winchester railway station.

Winchester is easily accessible by train from Gatwick Airport and around an hour from central London. Winchester is a major tourist destination in the south-east of England. Consider staying longer to see more of the city if you are able to.

If you offer a seminar paper there is a £50 fee discount for full board participants and £10 fee discount for daily participants. It is proposed that a selection of papers will be published.
