SERVICE OF WORSHIP — 10:45 a.m. Announcements and Greeting Scripture Meditation—Matthew 25:31–34

“When the Son of Man comes in his glory, and all the angels with him, then he will sit on his glorious throne. Before him will be gathered all the nations, and he will separate people one from another as a shepherd separates the sheep from the goats. And he will place the sheep on his right, but the goats on the left. Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world.

Introit Call to Worship—Based on Psalm 105:1–6

Leader: Oh give thanks to the LORD; call upon his name; make known his deeds among the peoples! ALL: Sing to him, sing praises to him; tell of all his wondrous works! Leader: Glory in his holy name; let the hearts of those who seek the LORD rejoice! ALL: Seek the LORD and his strength; seek his presence continually! Leader: Remember the wondrous works that he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he uttered, ALL: Remember and give thanks O offspring of Abraham, his servant, children of Jacob, his chosen ones!

Congregational Song—Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Text and Music: Matt Boswell, Matt Papa, Michael Bleecker ©2013 The Village Church

New Testament Reading— Revelation 20:11–15

Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it. From his presence earth and sky fled away, and no place was found for them. And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is the book of life. And the dead were judged by what was written in the books, according to what they had done. And the sea gave up the dead who were in it, Death and Hades gave up the dead who were in them, and they were judged, each one of them, according to what they had done. Then Death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Assurance of Grace— Revelation 21:1–4 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”

Congregational Song—Christ Is Mine Forevermore

Mine are days that God has numbered, I was made to walk with him. Yet, I look for worldly treasure and forsake the King of kings. But mine is hope in my Redeemer; though I fall, his love is sure. For Christ has paid for every failing; I am his forevermore. Mine are tears in times of sorrow, darkness not yet understood. Through the valley I must travel where I see no earthly good. But mine is peace that flows from heaven, and the strength in times of need. I know my pain will not be wasted; Christ completes his work in me. Mine are days here as a stranger, pilgrim on a narrow way. One with Christ, I will encounter harm and hatred for his name. But mine is armour for this battle, strong enough to last the war. And he has said he will deliver safely to the golden shore. And mine are keys to Zion city, where beside the King I walk. For there my heart has found its treasure; Christ is mine forevermore. Come rejoice now, O my soul, for his love is my reward. Fear is gone and hope is sure; Christ is mine forevermore. And mine are keys to Zion city, where beside the King I walk. For there my heart has found its treasure; Christ is mine forevermore.

BE EVER WATCHFUL

Nathan George

Confession of Faith—WCF Chapter 33

Leader: God has appointed a day, wherein He will judge the world, in righteousness, by Jesus Christ, to whom all power and judgment is given of the Father. In which day, not only the apostate angels shall be judged, but likewise all persons that have lived upon earth shall appear before the tribunal of Christ, to give an account of their thoughts, words, and deeds; and to receive according to what they have done in the body, whether good or evil. The end of God’s appointing this day is for the manifestation of the glory of His mercy, in the eternal salvation of the elect; and of His justice, in the damnation of the reprobate, who are wicked and disobedient. For then shall the righteous go into everlasting life, and receive that fulness of joy and refreshing, which shall come from the presence of the Lord; but the wicked who know not God, and obey not the Gospel of Jesus Christ, shall be cast into eternal torments, and be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of His power. ALL: As Christ would have us to be certainly persuaded that there shall be a day of judgment, both to deter all men from sin; and for the greater consolation of the godly in their adversity: so will He have that day unknown to men, that they may shake off all carnal security, and be always watchful, because they know not at what hour the Lord will come; and may be ever prepared to say, Come Lord Jesus, come quickly, Amen.

SERVICE OF WORSHIP — 6:00 p.m.

Announcements and Greeting

Call to Worship—Based on Isaiah 40:9–11

Leader: Go on up to a high mountain, O Zion, herald of good news; lift up your voice with strength, O Jerusalem, herald of good news; lift it up, fear not; say to the cities of Judah, “Behold your God!” ALL: Lift up your voices, for behold, the Lord GOD comes with might, and his arm rules for him; behold, his reward is with him, and his recompense before him. Leader: Praise the Lord! He will tend his flock like a shepherd; he will gather the lambs in his arms; ALL: Give thanks to him and sing of his kindness, for he will carry them in his bosom, and gently lead those that are with young.

Prayer of Invocation

Congregational Hymn—Praise, My Soul, the King of Heaven

Praise, my soul, the King of heaven, to his feet your tribute bring; ransomed, healed, restored, forgiven, who, like me, his praise should sing? Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the everlasting King. Praise him for his grace and favor, to our fathers in distress; praise him, still the same forever, slow to chide and swift to bless. Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, glorious in his faithfulness. Fatherlike, he tends and spares us; well our feeble frame he knows; in his hands he gently bears us, rescues us from all our foes. Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, widely as his mercy goes. Frail as summer’s flow’r we flourish, blows the wind and it is gone; but while mortals rise and perish, God endures unchanging on. Praise him, praise him, praise him, praise him, praise the high Eternal One.

Text: from Psalm 103, Henry F. Lyle, 1834; Music: LAUDA ANIMA, John Goss, 1869

Old Testament Reading—Proverbs 15:1–4 A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger. The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouths of fools pour out folly. The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good. A gentle tongue is a tree of life, but perverseness in it breaks the spirit.

New Testament Reading—Matthew 11:25–30 At that time Jesus declared, “I thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that you have hidden these things from the wise and understanding and revealed them to little children; yes, Father, for such was your gracious will. All things have been handed over to me by my Father, and no one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and anyone to whom the Son chooses to reveal him. Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Pastoral Prayer

Congregational Hymn—I Greet Thee Who My Sure Redeemer Art

I greet thee, who my sure Redeemer art, my only trust and Savior of my heart, who pain didst undergo for my poor sake; I pray thee from our hearts all cares to take.

Thou art the King of mercy and of grace, reigning omnipotent in every place; so come, O King, and our whole being sway; shine on us with the light of thy pure day.

Thou art the life, by which alone we live, rid all our substance and our strength receive; sustain us by thy faith and by thy power, and give us strength in every trying

Thou hast the true and perfect gentleness, no harshness hast thou and no bitterness; O grant to us the grace we find in thee that we may dwell in perfect unity.

Our hope is in no other save in thee; our faith is built upon thy promise free; Lord, give us peace, and make us calm and sure, that in thy strength we evermore endure.

Congregational Psalm—The Lord’s My Shepherd, I’ll Not Want

The Lord's my Shepherd, I'll not want; he makes me down to lie in pastures green; he leadeth me the quiet waters by.

My soul he doth restore again, and me to walk doth make within the paths of righteousness, e'en for his own name's sake.

Yea, though I walk in death's dark vale, yet will I fear none ill, for thou art with me; and thy rod and staff me comfort still.

My table thou hast furnished in presence of my foes; my head thou dost with oil anoint, and my cup overflows.

Goodness and mercy all my life shall surely follow me; and in God's house forevermore my dwelling place shall be.

Text: Psalm 23, Scottish Psalter; Music: CRIMOND, Jessie Seymour Irvine, 1929
