Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Unlike the people whose great faith inspired us last Sunday, we hear this week that the message of God's love is sometimes met with rejection and

disbelief. It is difficult for us to grasp the immensity of God's great goodness. We cannot comprehend the offer of freedom found in God's love. Ezekiel, Saint Paul, and Jesus all experience the rejection of the prophet who witnesses to this great love of God for us. Ezekiel understands that he is compelled to share God's message, whether people listen or not. Saint Paul accepts that he is a

weak vessel, and must bear insults and persecution for the sake of Christ. Jesus knows

that the people are astonished at his wisdom, yet they cannot allow themselves to hear him.

Unwilling to look beyond the child who grew up in their village, they are not willing to put their

faith in him.

Fourteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time July 8, 2018

JMJ July 8, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family, God be with us always. “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is made perfect in weakness.” These are the beautiful and assuring words our Lord spoke to St. Paul when he was beseeching Christ to take away his trials and the thorn on his side. Jesus is reminding him that together with God’s grace he will be able to overcome his struggles. We too need to hear and more importantly listen to these words that applies to our own struggles. We need to respond humbly to the challenge of God to have faith in him – because He is reliable and trustworthy. He has and he will come to our aid – we only need to recall the recent past and see how God came to our rescue. Let us take a moment to reflect on when we have had this intimate experience of being rescued or at the least God coming to our aid. I saw the musical Color Purple a few weeks ago one of the songs resonated to me. The lyrics are: “God is inside me and everywhere else – that was or ever will be. I came into this world with God. When I finally looked inside . . . I found Him.” We need to search inside and allow the encounter with God our Loving Father to happen. There is always the Eucharist or Mass where we have the benefit of listening to his Living Word and receiving His Precious Body and Blood. We do not have to look far and beyond for He is the “Emmanuel: God who is with us.” This week we have the opportunity to help our brothers and sisters in Haiti through the ministry of Fr. Marc. Next week we there will be a priest from Cross Catholic updating us from when

they last visited us and making an appeal for sponsorship of a child or their missionary work. There will be no second collection but they will be setting a table outside for those who are interested. In the meantime let us make the most of the opportunities to encounter the God within us by attending the Backyard Theology and registering and walking our Mini Camino: Along the Way.” I guarantee you will not regret it. See you there. God bless and take care. Love and prayers,

Fr.
