JMJ

April 15, 2018

My Dearest Parish Family,

God be with us always.

Memories are the greatest treasure we can ever have because it makes alive moments and even relationships when we

think they are no longer with us. The New Testament is filled with the collective memory of the community of apostles and disciples Jesus gathered to “Go out and Tell the Good News to all the Nations.”

Last Holy Week we have been given the opportunity to celebrate the Most Holy of three days of our Liturgical Season: the Easter Triduum. Here are pictures that capture it that speaks more than thousands of words. God bless and take care.

Love and prayers,

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

JMJ

Fr. Thomas Paul K. Naval

THE JOYS OF EXTRAORDINARY MINISTERS TO THE SICK AND HOMEBOUND

Have you heard God’s call to discipleship, but are not sure how to answer that call? Here at Santiago de Compostela we take pride in our Ministries. The Ministry of taking the Blessed Sacrament of Holy Communion to the sick and homebound is an honor and a joyful experience with eternal blessings.

Extraordinary Ministers are trained and commissioned Ministers who call on our parish brothers and sisters who are unable to attend Mass. Visits are to private residences or to small, private nursing homes. Visits are also made to the Lake Forest and Freedom Village Retirement Centers and to Kaiser Hospital. A visit from an Extraordinary Minister to the Homebound

not only provides the recipient with the Body of Christ, but gives them a connection to the outside world and helps them to still feel a part of their parish.

With the growing number of requests for Holy Communion to the homebound, we are in need of new Ministers. Time requirements are as little as one or two 1-hour visits a month. There are many ministers who make weekly 1-hour visits. The day and time of the visit fits within the Minister’s schedule. There is not a huge time commitment which seems to be what scares some off of wanting to participate in the Ministry.

The Church requires Ministers to be commissioned with the requirements taking little time or effort. An existing Minister will

train new Ministers prior to them making a visit.

Please prayerfully consider joining our Ministry. It takes so little time but the joy and rewards of fulfilling Christ’s call to visit the sick and home bound are life changing.

Are you ready to accept God’s challenge? We hope to hear a resounding YES! Challenge Accepted! For more information please contact: Theresa Gray - (714) 273-1305; [email protected]
